Options for getting to Laos?

Featured Replies

I'm sure plane is an option, how about minivan, bus, and train? I'm in the Asoke area.

PS: I'm an American on a triple entry visa. My language school is currently processing my papers and I'll be applying for a non-immigrant visa shortly. I'm open to going to any city in Laos, whatever's cheapest and fastest.

Easiest and cheapest to fly to Udon and then take the van from the airport for 200 baht to the border and then a short ride to Vientiane.

Fly to Udon Thani then take the International Bus to Vientiane. The bus costs about 80 baht and leaves pretty regularly starting 0700. You get off the bus at the border and exit Thailand take a few steps and enter Laos. Back on the bus and to Vientiane. Bus takes about an hour, add to that the time at immigration.

I did the trip in reverse about 8 weeks ago. Very easy and straight forward. Buy your bus ticket on the day (cannot pre-book).
