Another branch opening for Rimping?

Rimping has always been like that, nothing new there. This is typical 3rd world logic on lack of western business sense. They do not know how to pre order. I have seen this attitude in other 3rd world countries, run out then order and you might see it in another year.

If there's one thing you can count on, it's for some disgruntled thai visa member to characterize something or other that occurs in Thailand as Third World. Now you're whining because you can't get your favorite delicacy.. Clearly Khwaibah hasn't actually lived in the Third World.

You want to bet ? A better word would be A "developing nation" but not a first world nation.

^ Thailand is certainly NOT 3rd World. Evolving yes, and hopefully along a different path to that of many western nations :)

Rimping suffer a logistics problem which may in part be due to the high volume of imports and long lead time from order to delivery. Where is their distribution centre?

Was at Kad Farang today and the new store is still a work in progress with a fair way to go. Shelving is partly stocked with dry goods already.

Dec 14 is the widely advertised day for opening...8am

It's probably the long awaited opening at Kad farang--but, my guess is that won't be ready by November 2015--let alone 2014.

Yes, I think their one armed brick layer has been off sick!!

Living in the Moo Bahn behind Kad Farang- I still don't think that the majority of the new Plaza will be up and running before 2015- and may yet go the way of other developments on the same site.

I visit the Game on occasions and am now quite impressed with the set up- but if it can survive on the amount of custom that passes through its doors, then I am very surprised.

Good luck, though, it's an Oasis in KadFarang at the moment.

McD's should draw the Thai punter for a while.

I actually wish the whole thing all the best, despite the owners of the site.

Rimping has a restocking problem that needs addressing. Opening new branches is only going to exacerbate the problem. They are aware of the problem and have spoken to experts who have told them they need a central warehouse in Chiang Mai amongst other things to rectify the problem. But Rimping have said the have not the money for this.

New warehouses are not as glamorous as new stores but they are fundamental to a business such as Rimping. Until they sort this problem out customers are going to continue to find empty spaces on Rimping's shelves.

Oh, and what happened to the promised on-line shopping?

Well, it seems I need to eat my hat! I didn't think that they would make the deadline but. ...Rimping Kad Farang did actually open on 14 December.

And, it really looks like a nice branch-if they can maintain the quality of products available at the moment, then it could prove to be one of their nicest branches.

I understand completely what Saan is referring to- stocking product issues-and really hope that they can get on top of it.

Opening day wasn't too busy, more staff than customers, but it is indeed a nicely laid out store complete with bakery and a large fresh produce section.

When you consider the expansion Rimping has gone through in the last 5 years in CM its maybe understandable they have some re stocking problems.

Only they would know. Mae Hia, Rimping was understocked this morning but so convenient for us with the market next door.

Difficult to get a parking spot around there this morning ,the influx of foreigners shopping in the market and Rimping is staggering.

The new Rimping supermarket at Kad Farang is nice for a sometime shopping. However it is not far from the wet market where vegetable and meat will remain less expensive as always.

The problem with buying food at the wet markets - particularly meat, poultry, and seafood, is that surveys show that more likely than not, the stuff is treated with formalin (formaldehyde) a potent carcinogen. It pretty much has to be since most of it isen't even on ice, much less refrigerated.

I find these supermarkets a bit of a mystery!

Carrefour gave up and Big C took over; but you can still find Casino (French) products there. Why can you buy Waitrose branded goods in Tops?

Lidl should open some Thai stores!

Unfortunately--I agree, with Quidnunc--I used to shop down the road at Hang Dong Market but, it has become so shoddy and dirty whereas Mae Hia market shines in comparison--why the heck the local 'Tessabahn' or whoever controls such things can't step in and make the traders and the powers that run Hang Dong market--clean up their act; I will not buy foodstuffs from there anymore. It's OK for hardware, but it's not a pleasant experience.

The problem isn't just confined to this market. It's general all over Thailand whether the market is kept clean or not. If you're a vendor and selling meat, seafood, or poultry without refrigeration, one sure and cheap way to keep your merchandise from stinking, is to use formalin.

I think Big C actually is a French company and Casino is their house brand.

Those problems existed since they opened their first store.

It may not be RimPing, it may be their Bangkok or other wholesaler/distributor who is lacking. Clearly they do not buy all their stock direct from the producers.

Big C is 'French' owned--well, I didn't know that--is this correct?? Not saying anything derogatory just surprised since French stores always seem so nice.
