BMTA to provide free Wi-Fi on 1,500 Euro buses
The Nation

BANGKOK: -- The Bangkok Mass Transit Authority will provide free Wi-Fi Internet on its 1,500 European emission standard buses, acting BMTA director Naret Boonpliem said on Thursday.

He added that the new Euro buses, which are painted orange, come into service on October 1.

Naret said the BMTA will launch about 3,000 new NGV buses early next year and will improve the current buses by repainting them and installing easy-to-read route charts.

The director said the BMTA is also intending to lease out its unused depots, such as Bang Khen, Min Buri, Suan Siam, and Samer Dam, to private developers to build shopping malls so that the state firm can earn more income.

Who will be the provider? Will it be high speed 3G connection? Hard to believe.....

If it is, it will be the cheapest package available that will get used up on the first day of the month and then throttled back to 384 K or whatever.

What's WiFi got to do with 3G?

Well, WiFi in itself is quite boring unless there is some kind of internet connection behind it. On a moving bus, it will need to be some kind of wireless internet connection like 3G.

I guess the passengers could play multiplayer network games.....

I wonder how many passengers are now going to miss their bus stop while playing on their smartphone.

there is an App for that :)

I downloaded it last time when I almost missed my stop.....

it uses GPS from your phone......

Kudos to BMTA!

I'm always amazed at how superior the Asian concept of customer service is compared to old Europe, where in supposedly rich countries one has to take care of everything by himself, and where not only nothing is free, but most things are damn expensive!
