webfact Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 Cargo Ship From Africa Arrives in New Orleans With Sick CrewBY MIKE SCHULERNEW ORLEANS: -- A possible yet unlikely Ebola scare today in New Orleans after a foreign-flagged ship which recently called in Africa arrived with at least one critically ill crewmember onboard.U.S. health officials were alerted to the situation Wednesday morning and a statement from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said they would have U.S. Coast Guard, Louisiana Department of Health, and EMS crews on-hand to meet vessel near New Orleans and transport the ill crewmember to a local hospital for evaluation and care. The CDC said that the vessel’s itinerary did include a recent call in Matadi in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, but the chances of the crewmember having Ebola was thought to be exceedingly low. The CDC added that it will also be evaluating two other crewmembers reported to be showing minor symptoms of illness.Full story: http://gcaptain.com/cargo-ship-with-sick-crew-arrives-in-new-orleans/-- gCaptain 2014-09-18

ldnguy Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 Arrived by ship and feeling sick? My money's on sea sickness! All these Ebola stories are getting very tedious. Don't the press have any real news to report. 1

Don't the press have any real news to report. Sea sickness stops as soon as the vessel becomes stable or one steps ashore. The sufferer immediately feels normal again. Some never get sea sick , others ( me included) can get it just as soon as the vessel starts to roll. 1
Bwanatickey Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 America needs to defend its self, is that why Obama has dispatched 3000 military personnel to Liberia , a country in Africa that shares American heritage links.
Ulic Posted September 19, 2014 Posted September 19, 2014 Can't imagine any crew member spending time ashore in DRC. Probably just the flue or something similar.
attrayant Posted September 19, 2014 Posted September 19, 2014 Medical State: Medical states or medical conditions are used to describe a patient's condition in a hospital. These terms are most commonly used by the news media and are rarely used by physicians, who in their daily business prefer to deal with medical problems in greater detail. A wide range of terms are often used to describe a patient's condition. The American Hospital Association advises physicians to use the following one-word conditions in describing a patient's condition to those inquiring, including the media. Undetermined Patient awaiting physician and/or assessment. Good Vital signs are stable and within normal limits. Patient is conscious and comfortable. Indicators are excellent. Fair Vital signs are stable and within normal limits. Patient is conscious, but may be uncomfortable. Indicators are favorable. Serious Vital signs may be unstable and not within normal limits. Patient is seriously ill. Indicators are questionable. Critical Vital signs are unstable and not within normal limits. Patient may be unconscious. Indicators are unfavorable.
Bwanatickey Posted September 19, 2014 Posted September 19, 2014 .....what is 'critically ill'......??? " I need asylum " says seeker. You cannot send me back to danger land,
ldnguy Posted September 19, 2014 Posted September 19, 2014 Arrived by ship and feeling sick? My money's on sea sickness! All these Ebola stories are getting very tedious. Don't the press have any real news to report. 50% mortality not newsworthy enough? There has been zero mortality in Thailand, UK, USA, and that's where most of the scare stories come from. It's news now but will soon be forgotten,. Sick crew will still arrive but the press won't report it because people will be bored. Sick crew have always arrived in the US, but it didn't get reported. Nothing has changed. Sick crew is a very normal thing. Do you think cargo ship crew are immune from all illness? 1

Some never get sea sick , others ( me included) can get it just as soon as the vessel starts to roll. Who said they came ashore? Maybe another sickness. Definitely not Ebola. Just the papers making a story out of nothing. About 99.9999999% of people in Africa don't have Ebola, so who could the crew have caught t from? Did they visit some people in hospital who had Ebola? Ridiculous story. Do you think Ebola is the only disease that exists in Africa? Why can't they have caught a different disease there and why isn't that mentioned. The whole story is just nonsense.
Chicog Posted September 19, 2014 Posted September 19, 2014 About 99.9999999% of people in Africa don't have Ebola Yet. 1
NeverSure Posted September 19, 2014 Posted September 19, 2014 The CDC has released a statement in which they say that none of the crew members on a freighter bound for New Orleans have Ebola. Instead, the crew members with a disease have contracted malaria. The CDC responded to the situation with the freighter, along with other government officials. LINK
Scott Posted September 20, 2014 Posted September 20, 2014 Ebola is also sexually transmitted, so there is a need to be cautious.
boomerangutang Posted September 20, 2014 Posted September 20, 2014 The title of this thread sounds like it could have been written 180 years ago.
