Does anyone know if the Los Angeles consulate will issue a triple entry tourist visa to someone who's just come back from a 7 or 8 month trip to Thailand also on a triple entry visa ?

A friend of mine is back in the US at the moment and hoping to get another triple entry visa so he can return to Thailand for another 7 or 8 months. He will be staying in LA for about a month before coming back here.

Do they still issue visas in LA like before or have there been any recent changes ? He will go to the consulate in person to apply for and collect the visa.

There are no reports about the consulates in the US making it difficult to obtain a tourist visa, no matter number of entries requested or previous visa history.

However a triple entry visa from the US can be useless because they issues it valid for three months only, so you friend should explicitly ask for six months validity, or double entry visa.

The website of the Thai consulate in Los Angeles says this about tourist visas:

  • A single-entry must be utilized within 3 months from the date of issue.
  • Two-Entry Visa must be utilized within 180 days from the date of issue.

No mention is made of the triple-entry visa, but there is no harm in asking them about it, particularly if you have a travel itinerary that shows the need for three entries for the purpose of tourism within 180 days.

The only one that can answer your question is the Embassy in LA, so IMHO you should call them and ask. As far as validity of visas issued in the US, Single entry visas have a validity of 3 months from the date of issue. Double and triple entry visas normally have a validity of 6 months from date of issue. This is a quote from the Houston Consulate website that confirms this:

Validity of a visa:

The validity of a visa is 3 months for single entry; 6 months for multiple entries

I would say that was an error by the embassy when they did the visa. The person that got it should of immediately contacted the the embassy to have it corrected.

Thanks for the information, I'll pass it along.

He's going to pop in next week and get one of these, this should keep him going until early summer 2015.

The LA embassy only issues single and double entries. I suggest to try the double entry then while in Thailand just before your tourist visa expires go to the Lao embassy and apply for another.

I am currently here on a double entry 60 day tourist visa issued from the Royal Thai Consulate General in Los Angeles on Larchmont street. At the time I received mine, there were not doing triple entries, but it is best to ask there, the staff are quite helpful.

The period of validity was 6 months from the date of issue (must start the second entry within 6 months). After being here in Thailand for ~15 days (45 days or less remaining on the visa) I went to Chaeng Wattana and received a 30 day extension on entry number one, making it essentially a 90 day visa. I intend to do the same on the second entry for 6 months of total time in country.

As has been suggested, after 6 months, hit up a neighboring country to get another visa.
