Rohinya migrants now suspected in British couples death

9-18-2014-10-42-37-PM-wpcf_728x413.jpg

BANGKOK: -- Local police today added Rohinya migrants into suspected groups of three to find out after DNA results ruled out all their earlier detained suspects from the murder of the two British tourists.

The British brothers and friends to the slain David Miller, Mr Christopher Ware, 24, and his brother James, were now in the custody of the British embassy and they will leave for homes tonight.

Christophers DNA test did not match those collected from the scene of murder and the victims body.

Besides he also was cleared of the wounds on his wrist which was old and not fresh wounds caused during lighting fireworks.

However the embassy officials said they were ready to give cooperation in case new investigation implicated him again in the murder.

Both were scheduled to depart for home tonight.

Pol Maj-Gen Kiatipong Khoasam-arng, chief of Surat Thani police, said he has received all DNA test results unofficially.

He said from the DNA test, there were mixed DNA samples inside Ms Hannah Witheridge, indicating more than one suspect were involved.

This gave the police clearer picture of suspected groups, but still did not rule out earlier theories, he said.

He said the police now gave more weight to an Asian looking man who appeared in the CCTV video footage of a resort home walking around near the scene wearing no shirt.

The man was at first thought to be a friend of the male victim, but after DNA test didnt match any detained suspect, the police have to turn to this man again.

But he said so far the police have not found the man.

However the police now have launched massive dragnet to find this man throughout the entire island, he said.

He said investigation would be back to square one with focus now on three groups, namely local Thai people on the island, migrant workers, and tourists.

But he said migrant workers is the most suspected group, particularly the Rohinya migrants, judging from the gruesome nature of the killing.

However the police still have not yet ruled out Christopher Ware because there are still several evidence which are pending forensic examination, he said.

this is not the first time a crime is committed in those paradise islands often non Thai are accused but afterwards found guilty for the right reasons as the criminals were not Thai however in this case watching the CCTV picture of the young man on the run, he looks very much Asian and can be Thai.

There is a certain initial chaos the FBI will clear it not to worry, enough DNA samples collected to confuse the crime issues.

Horrific criminal act for no reason other than a blond women prey to catch.

Don't we ourselves Men, Farangs, stop our girlfriends to wear all their gold, stones openly especially when travelling together in remote parts of Thailand ( islands especially included ) knowingly criminals kill the man first before robbing, raping the woman.....that applies well in this crime in Koh Tao.

So sad I am speechless and I can not recommend any ones to venture in love in south East Asia not only Thai Islands, without ultra extra care including to respect any Statues/ Monuments by doing like the locals are not doing......bikinis wearing are for the beach certainly not for shopping neither for drinking out at night regardless of being a single or a couple.

Have you ever seen South East Asian ( not only Thai ) wearing bikinis similarly to many stupidly doing foreign women ?

God bless them and courage to the family, the criminals will be caught eventually.

Thailand beach murders: Desperate police DNA test WOMEN and measure footprints in bizarre public investigation

Thai police this morning DNA tested WOMEN to see if they were involved in the horrific murders of Hannah Witheridge and David Miller.

The female bar and restaurant workers were all given a sign to hold with a number and their name on it.

They were then photographed and forced to have their FOOTPRINTS tested.

Local staff – women and men – were also given mouth swabs on the beach.

These were the extraordinary scenes on the island of Koh Tao this morning as police tried to find the killer.

Just two yards from where the murder weapon – a bloodied garden hoe – was found they lined up dozens of local staff.

They waited politely to be called and then went back to work in local bars and restaurants as the testing finished.

This is getting silly, why not has an official spokesman releasing facts daily at a specified time or times instead of every man and his dog giving an opinion.

The investigation sounds amateur as it is without the press quoting anything they can get their hands on.

I'm no expert on DNA testing, but I would think that the DNA samples collected at the crime scene should indicate whether the perpetrator(s) were male of female. If the samples are too contaminated to determine sex, then they are probably useless from the outset.

Good. Sounds like the police are not ruling anyone out. Glad to see they are keeping an open mind.

Ofcourse, if the attackers were native Thai then hearing the police are looking for a different ethnic group might result in the attackers letting their guard down.

Its only a matter of time before they are caught. Thats the way police work occurs everywhere in the world. Leads develop over time and are investigated. Guys brag to their buddies or girlfriends and when the friendships or relationships end then those secrets are exposed. Meanwhile, the police are collecting and processing evidence and keeping and exploring all avenues.

They never did the first and most important thing, they never closed the island down, no one can leave and no one can enter the island. And any one wanting to leave legit would have to give a DNA sample.

My goodness what a weird post. She wasn't wearing a bikini but a halter top and shorts. She was on a beach anyway and with a male friend. I doubt they were paying homage to the rocks though some Thais have been known to. I am glad you grudgingly accept it may be a Thai and at least appreciate the horrendous incompetence of the police contaminating DNA at the scene through incompetence or maybe they are smart and corrupt and covering up for some influential Thai!

I am quite confident the DNA from the semen samples would give a good indication of gender.

Yes during the time of Roman Emperor Nero the Christians - cannibals - were always the most suspected group and later on during the Middle Ages the Jews became obvious suspects....Every period in time has its "ideal" cruel suspects....and who were the suspects of the horrible rape and murder on Vietnamese boat people around 1980?

Every people on earth have their own number of terrible criminals.

It is the normal Thai racism. Rohinya people are treated like dirt in Thailand and are a problem as they escape brutal treatment in their home country for similar treatment here. Police and the navy are not sympathetic to them but in the eyes of the rest of the world the behaviour of the police and navy is unacceptable. Thus causing them problems they are singled out for attack being seen as lesser and more unrefined than their nose picking cousins. As lizards of the forest they are therefore more likely suspects for this heinous crime because Thais would politely wai and say Sawasdee khrup to their victims before stabbing them gently in the heart rather than battering them to death. It is disgusting but indicative of certain small minded ignorant people in positions of authority.

Sorry, off topic slightly.

The one thing for sure about these topics - its took the rough edge or left alone the people with a wrong visa or are on overstay given that I began to think there was nothing more deserving of contempt or scorn than these people - or so it seems according to others on tv.

No matter our views or disgust at the way this investigation is going, we cannot participate or be heard by anyone since we are just virtual non-entities who have no power whatsoever and farangs of no importance.

Fundamentally, we are a lost cause.........

Scott,

you couldnt be more wrong, as, it is a fact, there are people in government, monitoring these pages, and they get reports as well

Yes, and I have an uncle who has an Elephant that does the backstroke ..........

Yes, the easiest thing to do with DNA is determine gender.

With the huge shared databases that the UK Yard and the FBI have, they can determine race and in many cases nationality. The Thais don't have a prayer of doing that.

We now hear that the FBI is asked to help. They will work behind the scenes with the Yard. This will prove interesting but if the killer(s) escaped without being tested, and the talk of the video is useless, then even they can't solve it. The scene and the victims are too contaminated.

Despite some people poo pooing the idea of taking female DNA, I think it is a good idea. If the perp's were locals and have left the island there is a good chance that a close relative (especially from a mother or daughter) may be found narrowing it down. They probably weren't smart enough to think of that !! I wonder if the BIB were......

Yeah, it still isn't too late to close the island down and line everyone up, if nothing else it would show who wasn't involved. It's been done before in high profile cases in Western countries. It has become a process of elimination by now. My biggest concern would be the contamination of the samples they already have.

Reporting so poor.

You should say Authorities are now refocused on everyone again that have not been tested with their DNA.
