How long would you put up with no internet access?

I was thinking tonight as I was disconnected from a conversation on Skype with relatives....how long would I put up with zero internet access? I am talking about no mobile or landline access.

No Skype, no Youtube, no cheap phone calls, no downloading TV/Films, no streaming TV, no online business activities, no emails, no news from other parts of the world, no domestic news, no WIKI, no banking online, no buying/booking online (domestic and international), no messaging, no research, no LINE, no dating sites and god forbid, no Thai Visa! NOTHING...just no internet! Full stop!

How long would or could you put up with it?

I've modified the poll so you can only check one choice, multiple choices would be illogical.

I manage about 2 days before I start getting humpy, but anything up to a week is manageable on a personal level (having a social life helps), however, without access to email I cannot do my job.

I like to read the newspaper online ,check in here and do my e mails, however i need it mainly for Banking ect.

I voted for one hour but it depends where I am (so a Multiple Choice Poll would have been good for me )

When I am in Pattaya, it's 1 Hour, that's why I have 2 ADSL lines, if one fails, I still have the other and it's pretty seldom that both are out (yeah when the electricity is off, but then I use my 3G dongle )

When I am Up-Country, it's 24 hours or more (but not one week)

Also, I suppose I could survive for years without social media, reading news, streaming TV/Movies, and other entertainment. As could everyone else. No one absolutely needs it.

Emails and other work related tasks requiring internet access I have to do on an almost daily basis....

I existed without the internet for over 40 years and am envious of those young enough to have never known a world without it.

They missed out on the joys of jammed fax machines, garbling telexes and phone lines in Thailand that often provided a background of Chinese opera to shouted conversations. No one knew why.

But we did get out more.

For folks voting for one hour, you need to relax a little...internet didn't always exist and people survived just fine....I know, hard to believe, but look it up in the history books. And I expect you could possibly survive maybe up to 24 hours without internet...but if it goes over 24 hours its time to see a doctor for stress medication.

I would say 1 hour to report. 4 to get a reason for the outage and a time of reconnection and 12 hours total outage.

Could be...I would hope those folks are getting around 8 hours of sleep daily...which means they can survive more than 1 hour without internet access. The internet is indeed important in today's modern world, but getting upset if not having internet access for only around an hour is just self-induced stress, especially if living in Thailand where reliable internet access 24/7 can many times be an illusive thing.

Some of us remember a world without the internet, computers and mobile phones.

We used to watch TV, read books, go to the movies, write letters, play games, kids used to play outside in the fresh air and kept fit, and strangely enough we even used to talk to each other face to face.

Nobody EVER took photos of their food to show their friends and mostly knew they people who you were talking to.

I expect I will be able to survive without it. After all I did before without any problems.

I am way past my limit at the moment, as I have not had a useable internet connection since the cable went out on the 16th. I cannot download anything at all. Even small files (100MB) can take hours.

Plus, I read they will not even start to fix it until Oct 1, with a likely restoration of full service until Oct 16/17.

I'm quite close to no internet as I'm staying in a village in England where the normal download speed is 135kb/s with BT, no other choices and BT refuse to upgrade the lines. Some folk on the outskirts of the village still have to rely on dial-up. This shocked me as back home in Thailand I get 1.5 - 2 mb/s with TOT.

On the plus side, I can still talk to wife on Skype with no buffering but if I had no internet for more than a day I'd go mad.

I'm confused. How did you manage to contribute on TV if you have no useable internet?

Mine (via microwave link) goes off everytime there is an electric storm. After a few times of complaining within the hour, TOT seem to now reset their end pretty quick, but I do get peed off if I have to wait more than a day. I can't be bothered with social media but wifey seems to be quite the social chatterbox and she also likes to catch up with the soaps unimpeded.

With all the privacy invasions, more and more seniors who are retired are going off the grid and trashed all computers and cell phones.

I could live without the Internet as I have simplified my life and retired.

In my opinion all the Internet does it dumb people down, and make many anti social. They are addicted to a device that tracks them, listens to them, can watch them and they pay for the surveillance. However, if someone looks at their device screen on the BTS, they get angry. Remarkable.

With all the hacking, no doubt a day will come when most of their funds will vanish.

Back when I had TOT, no service or something almost as good as nothing, for days was frequent. I'm sure my blood pressure went through the ceiling and their customer service didn't improve things. Banking and stock market access were the biggest issues for me, although I'd probably be better off if neither was so easily accessible.

Now with 3BB I've never gone a day without at least something, but erratic service sometimes lasts for days ... not often. Overall though 3BB and its technicians have been great. I hope saying that doesn't put a janx on me.

TOT stands for (to offer Tripe) eg shit service glad I do not use them any more you pay for what you get over here.

I am happy with there add on company CAT had it for over 3 years no problems and if I have any it is fixed with in 3 hours max

I use the internet for keeping in touch with relatives and friends and internet banking.

There's also TV and films I like to stream or download from time to time.

Must admit it's frustrating when the power goes off when I'm in the middle of a conversation on Skype (one of the joys of living out in the sticks in Thailand).

Just been without internet for 24 hours but I'm glad to say it hasn't phased me.

I have stacks of books and games to read and to play.

Must be getting old now as I remember the times when I used to listen to "Children's Hour" on the radio, go out and play on the streets with my mates or read a book if I wanted to be quiet.

Our first TV was a 9 inch screen PYE with a massive cabinet and there was just the one BBC channel before ITV came along.

It was always breaking down so the TV repair man was almost a permanent feature in our house.

One good thing was my mother used to keep the biscuit barrel topped up.

As regards a telephone my father wouldn't have one in the house saying it only brought bad news.

In a way I could understand this as when he lost friends and relatives the news came usually via someone's telephone.

So we used to use next door's phone or the phone box down the road.

Any other guys on Thai Visa remember those halcyon days?

The internet and electronics is like a drug. We become so dependable on it without even realizing how weak we become without it. Because we spend so much time on it, we lose our purpose in life to write our "storybook". When we die, this book is empty, because every activity was written on the internet.

1-2 days, I'll go crazy and mad. After that, I'm fine and could live without it. So much things left to see and do in this world.

Went without it for 1 week during the Egyptian revolution in 2011. It was a real bind, but we managed.

Banking was my biggest concern. I like to keep a close watch on my accounts what with all the scams going on nowadays.
