Three Myanmar men arrested for illegally holding five compatriots
The Nation

Samut Sakhon police yesterday arrested three Myanmar men who were caught for allegedly illegally detaining five of their male compatriots, who were going to be taken to work on a fishing boat in Indonesia.

Muang Jau, 23; Moung Zaw, 21; and another man identified only as Hee, 31; will face charges of human trafficking and illegal detention, Samut Sakhon police chief Pol Maj-General Jirapat Phumjit told a press conference yesterday.

The rescue mission took place on Wednesday evening following a tip-off from the Labour Rights Promotion Network Foundation that five victims were detained in a rented room in tambon Mahachai of Samut Sakhon's Muang district. The three men guarding the room were taken in for interrogation.

Initial investigation found that the five men came to Thailand early this month after being lured here with promises of construction work in Samut Sakhon.

However, the three suspects detained these five men in the rented room and threatened to kill them if they tried to escape, police said. The victims, not wanting to work on a fishing boat, called for help and other tenants heard their cries for help and alerted the foundation and police.

The three suspects reportedly told police that their gang had "bought" the victims from a Myanmar agency at Bt15,500 per head and were then going to hand them over to a fishing boat operator for Bt20,000 per head. They claim that this is their first offence.

They only serve for TH demand ...

"They claim that this is their first offence." Of course it's not question at all.

Burmese like these who sell their own kind are no better than dogs and they most probably sell their mothers too....give them a life sentence and let them die in prison.

Hope for the victems that they will get a workpermit and a decent job in construction .

Only very desperate people would take a job on a fishingvessel here in Thailand , the risk of washing up on a beach is just to great .
