Looking for Windows 8, anyone know a good place?

Hi, I locked myself out of my computer and now need to do a reinstall of the OS. Anyone know where I can get a copy of Windows 8 fairly cheap?

check wastebins ?

More seriously, if you have a license sticker on your computer, you can probably use any copy of equivalent version.

The manufacturer of your computer should be able to send you a fresh copy.

But I don't know if you are even able to install a new OS, because many of the newer UEFI bios don't allow it.

Lenovo made my computer but I can't wait as I work from it. Anyone have a better place than Pantip Plaza in mind (if not I head there tomorrow)?

Go there tomorrow.

It's the best place to solve your problem.

Well, in a way they allow it. You have to buy an image of your installation from the manufacturer. There is no longer a stop screen to enter the product key which is hard coded and encrypted in the bios and entered automatically upon installation. That product key has to match the OEM product number or it's a fail.

OP, what do you mean you locked yourself out of your computer? Did you forget your password? Have you googled for a way to crack that password?

For next time, do you know that you can make an image of your drive and save it on an external drive? In Windows 8, Control Panel> system and security> file history> system image backup.

That should be done at least once a week. In windows 7 it had a scheduler for it. You can restore your drive or even a new drive with that and be right back where you were including validation.

I save an older one that doesn't have a password. I run Cobian Backup automatically every night to also save all files and folders I want to back up.

Cobian and Windows Image can run at the same time because they both use the volume shadow copy service.

My opinion is that it is a disloyal practice. Computers sold with such restriction should clearly state so on the label and in the product description, because it is a big limitation.
