UPDATE:

The Hua Hin Provincial Court today sentenced a 22-year-old outsourced employee of the State Railway of Thailand to death after he was found guilty of rape and murder of a 13-year-old student on the sleeper train on July 5.

PM Prayut to visit Myanmar Oct 9-10

BANGKOK, Sept 30 -- Thailand's Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha will visit Myanmar on Oct 9 and 10, and join the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) in Italy in mid-month.

Government spokesman Yongyuth Mayalarp said the prime minister's foreign affairs staff are preparing Gen Prayut's trip to Myanmar on Oct 9 and 10, and the following trip to Milan Oct 16 and 17 for ASEM, an economic meeting between ASEAN and Europe.

The spokesman said that the prime minister, having accepted invitations to visit both countries, is having his foreign affairs staff finalize travel details with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other concerned agencies.

The ASEM meeting will be a venue for Gen Prayut to meet leaders of other countries following thelllll coup in Thailand on May 22.

Gen Prayut heads the coup council, the National Council for Peace and Order.

If questions on the political or other situations in Thailand are posed, Gen Prayut will respond and present the facts there. (MCOT online news)

Train derails in Kanchanaburi

BANGKOK: -- A third-class train derailed as it was running from Nong Pradook station to Nam Tok station in Kanchanaburi province Tuesday morning.

The derailment happened at 7.30am to train No 485 while it was running in between Kilometre markers 131 and 132.

The train with six bogies shook strongly while it was near Wangyen station forcing the driver to lower its speed immediately. However it was too late as the train ran out of the tracks and flipped over.

There was no injury to the 12 passengers in the train.

Train officials there was no damage to the locomotive and the bogies but it would take one day to put them back on the tracks again.

National Disaster Warning Center warns of flash floods in foothills

BANGKOK, 30 September 2014 (NNT)-The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation has revealed that Thailand is experiencing scattered showers and heavy rain in some areas. Many areas are warned against flash floods and landslides.


The Director General of the National Disaster Warning Center, Somsak Khaosuwan said that authorities are urged to keep special watch in Tak, Sukhothai, Kampaengphet, Kanchanaburi, Uthaithani and areas near mountains and hills in Chachoengsao and Chonburi.

However, the rainfall is good for Thailand, which needs to retain water for the dry season. The water level in the reservoirs and dams in Thailand is still low and there will be no impact affecting the Chaophraya River.

Finance minister: Thai economy might grow less than 2% this year

BANGKOK, 30 September 2014 (NNT) - Finance Minister Sommai Phasi has admitted that this year’s economic growth might not reach 2% due to the political problems at the beginning of the year and the global economic slowdown. The minister however forecast that next year’s growth could rise to 4.5% thanks to the government’s continuous economic stimulus measures.

Man says police beat him after he declines to be witness in Koh Tao murder cases
