Off-road truckers apologise for 'reckless' race

BANGKOK: -- The president of "Soom Wat Pa" off-road truck club apologised yesterday to Nakhon Nayok people for a truck race in Klong Madeu, source of the Nakhon Nayok River.

Decha Pornbamrung said the race was the reckless action, captured in a viral video clip, of some drunken caravan members and it wouldn't happen again.

The incident occurred during the caravan, comprising Decha's club and two other off-road groups, who planned to make merit in the province and then camp quietly in the creek area.

Decha's apology was made after Nakhon Nayok residents gathered at the provincial hall yesterday for a protest initiated by the "Thini Nakhon Nayok" Facebook page.

Resident Sonjim Kaewkhun said she found the race unacceptable, as it affected people and animals. She joined with others to condemn it and urged state agencies to prevent a reoccurrence.

After receiving the complaint, Deputy Governor Sukhaway Suksawat held a meeting in the afternoon with Decha and villager representatives.

OOps, sorry I did as i respect what a good Buddhist says about sincerity of religion.

Ahh...a typical pious Thai - with the words make merit and drunken in the same statement.

Thai Buddhism is a rather ironic one also, they donate money to have good merit but not to help others, they eat meat especially monks while they preach about thou shall not kill.

All that merit making would be worthwhile if they went to a charitable organizations, not to make temples look pretty or host their friends and family member who come to their house for the yearly merit making ceremony.

But I have to say many of the offroad groups does quite a lot of charitable activities, especially donating goods to very remote parts of the country who are short on daily necessities.

yeah tearing up through there drinking water scaring there food supply IE: monkey meat. squashing there desert bugs and stuff seems a tribe can't pooch in peace anymore.

everyday I see trucks racing each other on the roads around Surat Thani, they think they are driving ferrari's. They are doing speeds of around 100k plus(in low limited zones) while they change lanes continually cutting off cars in their big tippers putting a lot of peoples lives at risk and we never see the police doing anything about it yet here in the bush the locals complain and the dep. governor steps in, only in Thailand.

I am curious as to how they prepare and cook the monks, are they defrocked first?

Ofcourse these big trucks cause environmental degradation...especially when raced. The people who operate these vehicles care nothing about the damage they cause or the people they negatively affect.

Thats why civilized countries have laws in effect to limit their use.

excuse my poor grammar as English is my third language, but I would not recommend you to try it if you are thinking about it.
