The Hua Hin Provincial Court today sentenced a 22-year-old outsourced employee of the State Railway of Thailand to death after he was found guilty of rape and murder of a 13-year-old student on the sleeper train on July 5.

Although the convict, Wanchai Saengkhao, a bed-sheet replacement employee of a company outsourced by the SRT, would confess, the court said it would not help to ease the death sentence because his confession was confuted to testimonies and evidence.

He has 30 days to appeal the death sentence.

His accomplice Nattaporn Chamnan was also sentenced to six years in prison but commuted to four years after he confessed.

Death Sentence For Convicted Train Rapist & Murderer

By Khaosod Eng.

PRACHUAP KIRI KHAN — A Thai court has sentenced to death the state railway employee found guilty of raping and murdering a 13-year-old girl on a moving train two months ago.

Wanchai Saengkhao, was accused of sexually assaulting the girl before throwing her body overboard on a night train bound for Bangkok on 5 July. Mr. Wanchai worked as a cleaner on the train.

Mr. Wanchai was charged with sexually assaulting a minor, committing premeditated murder, and concealing the body. He was also charged with nighttime theft and drug abuse, as it emerged that Mr. Wanchai stole the victim's phone and took methamphetamine pills prior to committing the crimes.

Today Hua Hin Provincial Court found Mr. Wanchai guilty of all charges and sentenced him to death.

The court justified the verdict by noting that Mr. Wanchai's crimes were "cruel and without any shed of humanity," therefore deserving the harshest punishment available under the law.

Although Thai courts usually reduce sentences for defendants who confess, the judges said Mr. Wanchai's confession did not merit such reduction because he only confessed "when defeated by evidence."

The court also found a colleague of Mr. Wanchai guilty of assisting with the rape and murder. Nattakorn Chamnarn, who allegedly served as a look-out for Mr. Wanchai and kept silent when police investigation began, was sentenced to four years in prison.

Mr. Wanchai remained expressionless throughout the verdict reading. He was later escorted out of the courtroom without speaking to the press.

Rapist murderer on southern train gets death sentence

9-30-2014-1-47-23-PM-wpcf_728x413.jpg

BANGKOK: -- The Hua Hin Provincial Court today sentenced a 22-year-old outsourced employee of the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) to death after he was found guilty of rape and murder of a 13-year-old student on the sleeper train on July 5.

Although the convict, Wanchai Saengkhao, a bed-sheet replacement employee of a company outsourced by the SRT would confess, the court said it would not help to ease the death sentence because his confession was confuted to testimonies and substantial evidence brought against him.

Wanchai has 30 days to appeal the death sentence.

His accomplice Nattaporn Chamnan, 19, was also sentenced to six years in prison but was commuted by one-third to four years after he confessed.

Wanchai was found guilty of committing several crimes on different occasions, the court said.

He gets death sentence for murder, nine years for raping an underaged girl, five years for theft at night, one year for covering up the dead body, and six months for drug consuming.

The court said his confession was made out of confutation to testimonies by 29 witnesses and evidences and that could not justify for the suspension of the death sentence.

The convicted prisoner is given 30 days to appeal the death sentence.

After the verdict was read, the mother and relatives who dressed in black with wordings read ‘Rape and Murder’ deserves death sentence, said they accepted the court’s ruling today.

Former Miss Thailand 2000 Panadda Wongphudee, a strong advocate to execution for rapist murderer, also was at the court’s room to hear the verdict.

I believe it has been a long time since they really executed someone.. to be honest i got my doubts it will happen.

According to http://www.thaiprisonlife.com/ - the last executions (2 of them) took place in August 2009. According to Amnesty international, Thailand handed down 50+ Death Sentences in 2013, and there are approx 678 prisoners with Death Sentences currently in the system.

I don't think they execute people in Thailand any longer, and if they do, the keep it very, very

low key, thus not ever knowing whether the death sentence is real or just for show...

Life prison sentence without parole would have been better, death is so easy ... besides that Capital punishment will be converted to life sentence and then he will walk after 20 years or so if he's still in one piece ..

Its odd, just yesterday I was thinking about this horror case, my mind was wandering around the neighborhood where somebody lives where our Thai neighbors insist is not a place to leave our kids alone.

Then this verdict comes along, and I cannot think about the supposed problem i have with an eye for an eye justice, but in this case i just feel that justice is done the moment he is dead!

I got a little princess myself you see!
