Koh Tao murders: Myanmar worker confesses killing British tourists

Wow!!! the only people who are going to fall for this BS are the Thais. The poor and (purposely) poorly uneducated Thais because they don't know any better and the Middle Class and rich and powerful Thais because it totally suits their needs and they can then move on with their main aim which is amassing as much money as they can from the western tourists so they can continue to send their spoilt, violent, protected offspring overseas to the western schools to receive the best education so that said offspring can then return here to carry on the whole charade.

Get the UK Police in now and give them 100% access to all the ORIGINAL evidence and crime scene samples and specimines and let them conduct a thorough and independent investigation. Sadly, i fear it is too late for that now as the old cynic that i am feels that the Myanmar lads DNA will now be all over the crime scene....

You are very wrong about that. Maybe you need to meet some different Thai people. I'll paste my earlier comment below for you.

FYI everyone, Thai people seem to be in agreement with this thread that this is a setup. The Khaosod facebook post in Thai about the arrests has over 500 (EDIT: 5000) comments. I expanded it to show 500 and did a search. The word แพะ appears 173 times. แพะ is the Thai word for goat, and also has the same English meaning as scapegoat. Thai people are on the short end of police corruption and incompetence way more than foreigners. They know what's going on here.

BOYCOTT KOH TAO!

Seriously, they need a wake up call on these islands. Dont go there, and implore everyone you know not to go there either.

Let them feel this where it really hurts, the pocket!

--

I dont believe its a burmese for a second. Its a local who thinks he is above the law.

Damn straight! Where is the justice? It's all about the money and losing face. Boycott Koh Tao!

The thai word for scapegoat is แพะรับบาป and translates like this - a goat receiving sin. So look for this text and you won't go far wrong!

I was going to disagree and ask where's the evidence of the accused being set up but then I suddenly remembered that the Burmese have a reputation for killing people gently and with the absolute minimum required whacks to the head with a hoe. Silly me.

Sorry, I don't believe that for a second. Where's the motive for the ferrocity of those attacks ?

Total stitch up.

Thai Police find a suspect who confesses and you still don't believe it.

I know a thai person could not do these crimes.

..but a Thai can rape a young girl, kill her and throw her from a train?

You have zero credibility here.

Best you leave.

I think he was being sarcastic......

So much cynicism here. There are loads of unsolved murder cases in all of your home countries and I don't see any threads complaining about the UK "Keystone cops".

Natalie Holloway (sp?) the US student who was murdered many years ago and the police there and in the Netherlands don't have a clue.

The police in Koh Tao are investigating a crime, they went down the wrong path a couple times but they kept investigating and now they have someone in custody who confessed.

What kind of deal are they going to make to an innocent person who confesses to rape and multiple murder who will be executed if found guilty. How could they coerce someone to confess, what could they threat to do that's worse than a firing squad ? Unless the accused is a serial confessor to crimes he didn't commit, I'd tend to believe his confession.

Wait for the "DNT" (sic) tests and other forensic work to cone in before you posit your own complicated conspiracy theories, unless you don't mind being told "I told you so" by the other people here.

Most countries put someone in jail when is 100% sure they made the crime, otherwise they go free.

Pleasassist me in getting in touch with all UK press and British Embassy

Warot needs to provide DNA and actual CCTV footage and not some goddam photoshop print. This might get him a pass at University but dear god two innocent people were murdered in the most horrific way.

Their families and friends deserve the truth

I will contact their parents in time myself if I have to

If anyone wants to do it too go here

B o y c o t t --- K o. T a o

Hannah Witheridge and David Miller deserve real justice. We shall never forget this unjust, corrupt case and we all know who did this. Until Mon and Worat are behind bars we shall forever boycott your gangster run island.

One thing bothers me with the Mon / Worat thing .. everyone wonders why they didn't give DNA .. But my question is this.. IF the police are so corrupt as everyone here seems to think (including myself) . why did they not simply fake his dna test? It would have made it look way better.. right? it doesn't make sense from any perspective...

Simple. Arrangements to fake/dna had no been made yet.

There are some very bad people here, just like all the rest of the world. I believe a Thai could have done it, some of these post, a Thai could not do it, I suggest you read about the Thai guy just a few days ago who killed his wife and daughter. He then burned his pick-up with them in it, yes there are some losers here.

What about the train porter who raped, killed and then threw the 13 year old girl out of the train. Yes there are some very bad people here.

Having said all that, the majority of Thai people are good honest people. Drugs and too much alcohol can make good prople do bad things.

Having sex on a public beach is not a wise thing to do, if in fact that was the case.

Why was half the island afraid to talk if it was a poor immigrant from Myanmar. Utter horsedroppings.

Confirmed DNA tests please UK.

First, I think these myanmar workers are scapegoats / patsies ...

BUT to play devils advocate I will answer your question:

Many locals are jealous of the head man and his family. so they start rumors and rumors spreads..

Most locals believe rumors (as do I btw ... ) and are afraid to talk about what they saw,, because they are afraid ..

Question is .. is it only rumors that this is mafia-related etc.. or was it actually mafia-related.. judging by all the events.. it seems like mafia-related.. and the head man is probably covering for his son(s) / friends. .

Agreed.

What happened to matching DNA found on a sweet wrapper? Could it contradict the uhh rock-solid alibi given by a certain well connected person?

It also seems to me there were several references to football players, one of the cctv vids shows three of them walking directly behind the girl. No further mention of this. There was a post a while back I recall, which mentioned that a player was the son of one of the headmen.

Time to close this investigation down - immediately...

There are so many more plausible stories than this arrest and confession that it almost seems impossible. Far more evidence points to police cover up and perversion of justice by local authorities in the pursuit of protecting one of their own. If there are no arrests for obstruction, or aiding a fugitive then it is most certainly a stitch up.

If this post is wildly inaccurate, or offensive in any way so be it. It has come as quite a shock to me, after living here almost 10 years, how much this cancer has infected Thailand. The cancer of corruption. The murder is terrible. but what it has exposed regarding Thailand is even worse.

To add insult to injury the TAT idiots run around like chickens with their heads removed. No excuse for their behaviour at all.

May god serve justice to the criminals who raped and murder those tourists and to those who frame innocent people.....

Police promised cash reward to buy false testimony: taxi driver
The Nation

BANGKOK: -- A TAXI driver on Koh Tao off the Surat Thani coast yesterday went public with his accusation that police investigating the murders of two British tourists had tried to intimidate him into providing false testimony.

In a media interview yesterday, Prasit Sukdam also accused the police of giving him a large sum of money in exchange for false testimony to frame the wrong people. He claimed the money was taken from the Bt700,000 offered as a reward by Koh Tao residents for information leading to the arrest of the killers.

Separately, Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha dismissed reports that tourists will be encouraged to wear wristbands or register electronically upon arrival in addition to passport verification at the airport. "We can't make them wear any chip-embedded device. We want them to keep visiting Thailand," he added.

Meanwhile, Prasit brought the issue up with Assawin sae-Phoo, head of local taxi drivers on the tourist island, citing "fear for his life after turning down the offer". Assawin later took Prasit's complaint to Korbchai Saowalak, the kamnan of tambon Koh Tao.

Korbchai then spoke publicly to the police, calling on them to not work on the case in an aggressive manner and not find scapegoats. "Don't harm innocent people or frighten them," he said.

Speaking later to reporters, Prasit said: "I don't want to take any action against the policemen, but want to demonstrate my innocence and I will cooperate with other requests in the future. Just don't force me to acknowledge [something] I never knew [about]," he said.

Prasit admitted to celebrating with a football team after a match at an unnamed pub on the night of the murders, but said he knew nothing about the team members' activities or police suspicions about them.

He said some policemen approached him at 1.30pm on Monday trying to convince him to cooperate and let him go five hours later.

Meanwhile, assistant national police chief Lt-General Jakthip Chaijinda has been instructed to supervise the investigation, taking over from Police Region 8 commander Lt-General Panya Manen who has been promoted to assistant national police chief. Officials said different police units should work together on the probe.

The Police Region 8 chief's post has been filled by Lt-General Decha Butrnamphet, who said later that the same set of investigators would continue working on the case.

I'm sure Win will be photographed at a press conference soon with police pointing at him and I'd assume that if he was beaten within an inch of his life to confess to something he didn't do that the injuries would be noticeable.

I recall reading that DNA samples from the crime scene are in the hands of UK authorities. If so then the same authorities need to stand up and DEMAND that THEY COME TO THAILAND and take DNA samples from the accused. Anything less will leave the families with massive doubts about their tragic loss.

I don't believe the confession.

I don't believe the Brit guy and girl were having sex, or even together.

She was dragged off and attacked, he ran to help, now that story makes sense.

I believe it was a Thai related to the head man who is guilty, else why would they covered up for so long.

Allow me to expand on this. Many are probably skeptical. Why would an uneducated, poor Myanmar worker confess to this heinous murder when the result will be almost certain death? Let me suggest the following. Certain assurances are made by the Village Head Masters family and in cooperation with the police significant (For a Myanmar family) amounts of money are given to the family of the accused Myanmar worker. Promises are made to him that if he confesses his mother and father and sisters and brothers, his whole family will never want for anything. He is told that if he sacrifices himself he will be the savior of his family and they can surely rise above their poverty and position forever. What greater gift can a wayward son give his family? He's deprived of sleep, He's frightened. He's certainly guilty, in his own mind, of being a worthless sod. Finally, he has the opportunity do make "Merit", to do good and so he gladly confesses and is provided all the lurid details of the crime by the police and coached on the reenactment. He will go to his maker certain he did the right thing. That's just my take on things. An enterprising reporter or investigative writer with skill far greater than mine might want to follow up and pay a visit to the village in Myanmar where the poor son of a bitch grew up and see how his family is getting on with their new found wealth.

Spot on. One more thing, they maybe only confessed rape and not murder...then jail time will not be that long.

Totally agree, but also suspect that if the guy didn't get the death sentence and only did time for the rape then there is a pretty good chance that he wouldn't last long in the Thai prison before he had a Fatal "accident' of some kind as he would be a liability while he was living and breathing... and possibly having second thoughts about what he 'confessed' to...

Just like we saw so often with Chalerm, yet another high-profile case which gets a full confession within minutes of making an arrest.

Just how stupid do these people think the rest of the world is ?.

What is this Thai-style John Prescott doing these days anyway ?.

Lets take a few things into account here shall we.

1. The crime scene was a shambles, any murder crime scene should be handled with great care and cornered off because you only get one shot at obtaining evidence.

2. The police let (at the time) key suspects go without taking DNA and who had injuries

3. The police accused a fellow Brit to the victims of being the murderer because he was, in their opinion a homosexual.

4. The authorities literally said 'a Thai could not have committed this crime' early on in the investigation

5. The general had that famous comment that he said and which he had to apologize for, the one about wearing bikinis will get you raped and killed.

6. It took the police more than a week before they started to DNA sample Koh Tao

I am probably forgetting many more points but this is not a decent murder investigation, it is not even a half assed one, it is a shambles and a cover up full of corruption.

I somehow don't believe this for one second. They should have to produce absolutely conclusive proof...

I guess in their eyes a signed confession, even if it was beaten out him is all the conclusive proof they need...

"See we told you it was those pesky foreigners again"

The die was cast the first day, when BIB came out said this couldn't have been a Thai, from that point on the agenda had been set, there have been a few bumps along the road in the last two weeks, but the BiB/Thailand got the result they wanted.....not our fault, "pease come back Thailand and give money me" wink.png

the sequence of events over the last 36 hours or so have been all too convenient don't you think

BiB beating people

BIB trying to pay for false witness's

dead lines to meet....85% complete etc

the house of cards start to collaspe

Bingo..look who just walked in the door a 21 year FOREIGNER, and a foreigner who is classed lower than shark shit in Thailand signed a bit of paper saying he did it... wink.png

if the person concerned did do it, one supposes he is here "illegally" and knows the reputation of the BiB/thai's generally towards Burmese, there is no way he would be hanging around KT, he would have run for the hills, he is kid and would have been scared shitless and would have run certainly, so if he did do it this kid either has balls of steel or a death wish to hang around KT after the fact or he didn't do it and has been stitched up by the BiB.

Bingo all right, keep the pressure on people..clearly Social media is the only hope here...

So they've changed the head cop in charge of the case again...

I thought this was as funny as the "I'll give a million baht if you can prove my family guilty." Swine of a comment...

Cops is quoted as saying this "Pol Lt Gen Panya also dismissed a claim by footballer Pornprasit Sukdam, 37, that he was beaten on Monday into confessing involvement. He said the allegation was totally untrue.

Yeah right..

Why didn't they make a run to their home country, if guilty ? Fishy, at least for the moment...

My thoughts exactly.. If this guy did the crime why stay in Thailand? It makes no sense what so ever...

Agree. They didn't take DNA yet also, so he/they could have easily disappeared (gone home or anywhere) & never been caught. Doesn't seem to add up. IMHO.

Absolute rubbish. I've been here too long to know how racist these Thai's can be. I was married to one! Very easy to pass the blame onto neighbouring citizens who they don't particularly care about. Thai's find it very hard at times to care about anyone else but themselves. I feel very sorry for this Burmese guy who would have probably been bribed by the Thai police, to admit to the murder to help make their own look like angels! A Thai friend of mine has just gone very public on a social media site slating the Thai's and their racism, so before you go bad mouthing me for bad mouthing the locals, some Thai's are in total agreement! They have been educated here in Thai language, in Thai schools and they have told me the racism they are taught about their neighbours is beyond disgusting!!!
