BANGKOK: -- An infamous Phuket powerbroker, former Patong Mayor Pian Keesin, died today after reportedly falling inside his residence, The Phuket News reports.

Pian, believed to be 70-something, was found dead this morning at his home in Phuket City following a year which has seen his power wane and police going after the longstanding power he was believed to wield behind the scenes.

Still a popular figure with constituents, Pian was also vilified for what police said were his links to the underground elements that grip the community.

I am certain that I don't know anything about any of this, unlike those who think they do.

RIP to the dead, be they good people or otherwise.

Pian Keesin - loved by some, but a tyrant to many.

Isn't that something which can be said of all mafia bosses ?

The debacle that has been the constant mess of 'making, digging up , making again, cutting squares out of'' "Middle Broken Road" for SIX YEARS has been directly attributed to his greed.

Its rumoured he got 20% out of every baht spent on that disgrace of a road , and its no surprise it is suddenly improved and all but finished in less than 6 months of his political demise .

All hail the leader who refused to accept central government funding to bury all the beach road cabling...

I don't understand the need of some TV members to do the "RIP and condolences to the family" on every thread about somebody dying. This blokes family don't give a rats &rse about your condolences, unless you were a friend to him, which I doubt. 50 to 60 million of people die every year..Some cases are tragic...Most are just people dying, as we all will.

An unemployed teacher topped himself in Chiang Mai a few days ago, and the usual "condolence" crowd were out, some rebuking anybody who had a positive tilt on life, and didn't want to grieve with them about the person who they didn't know.

It should only be depressing If It's a friend or family or a tragedy Koh Tao] otherwise It's just news.

Lighten up.

It's polite.

Try it sometime.

Did you shed a tear when saddam Hussein was hanged?

This guy was a Thug who ruled patong with an iron fist, i knew him nearly 20 years.

Believe me, no love lost except those who will no longer be on his payroll.

Comparing him to saddam is just a ridiculous statement.

Shame in you for even trying.

WRONG...Men die everyday and everywhere.

This was a less than human animal that was probably in a planned fall. Like all the farang who land on the pavement...but DID NOT jump.
