More than half of businesses registered with the Surat Thani Commerce Office in the first half of this year are located on Samui Island.

Surat Thani commerce chief Sompong Onprasert (สมพงษ์ อ่อนประเสริฐ) said 696 companies and 203 limited partnerships were registered in this southern province between January and June this year.

All had a combined registered capital of around 1.8 billion baht, 70% of which belonged to Thai investors and 30%, foreigners.

Mr. Sompong said most of the registered businesses were in the service and property sectors.

Sixty-nine percent was opened on Samui Island, 12%, Muang district, 10% Pa-ngan Island and 9% in other districts, he said.
