What's the weather really like right now in Koh Chang ?

Featured Replies

I have been watching the weather forecast, page on this site but I just thought I would ask those that are actually living in Koh Chang, right now, how much rain you are getting?

I am due to come to Bai Lan next week and I was hoping I would be missing the heavy rain by now. I don't mind if it rains (even every day) as long as it doesn't stay dull and overcast for many days. If it rains and clears up afterwards that is okay by me.smile.png

The weather today is lovely. A nice sunny day, heavy rain last night but perfect today. Just fished work, and have the afternoon off, lovely

Enjoy Bai Lan. My favourite village on the island.

oh thanks so much Mr toadsmile.png

so it sounds from what you're saying like the period for prolonged overcast weather has passed by? Like i said earlier I don't mind rain just as long as you get periods of blue sky.biggrin.png

I used to stay in Bai Lan before then I started staying in Bang Bao until they tragically destroyed the ambience of the place in my opinion with that hideous walkway along the pier to the lighthousebah.gif .

I hope they don't over develop Bai Lan is well. It was really nice 6 to 7 years ago.

Bai LAN is still pretty undeveloped, although there are a few more resteruants there now. The Bang Bao pier is a mess these days, although still a couple of nice places to eat on the pier, Bhudda View, Rhung Thai and El Greco.

Bai Lan, Happy Turtle serves IMO the best food and coffee in the village. Gu bay is still a nice little spot for a quiet beer and a bite to eat.

Is Koh Chang relatively quiet compared to all the bad news we hear about from Phuket and Koh Tao etc in the south.

Koh Chang is much quieter than those places. As for weather, I've found this site to be pretty good:

But weather forecasts here seem to be hit and miss as rain storms here are relatively localized as opposed to other countries where entire regions get socked in.

Thankfully Koh Chang is vastly different to the aforementioned cesspools.

As far as I am concerned, not sure about others, but I always avoid Koh Chang in the Thai rainy season. September to mid December. The weather can be awful and the roads are slippy and dangerous especially on a motorcycle. The Mountain there attracts huge clouds and its not pleasant at all. Yes there are nice short periods but it is totally unreliable SO PUT OFF YOUR VISIT THERE UNTIL THE RAINY SEASON ENDS. Well that's my half penneth of advice, take it or leave it..

I think I'll leave it tongue.png Koh Chang is mostly mountainous and act like a big 'sail' and catches whatever weather--wet or dry--is in the area

This year the wet season has seen minimal rainfall (except for the 1st weekend in Sept which was unusually bad) and there might probably be no significant rain after the end of this month--unless there's a late season, low-latitude typhoon

I would say the 'rainy season' in Trat and Koh Chang is June to mid-October

When the wind switches to a steady north-northeast direction the dry season has arrived thumbsup.gif

Rain season here is June to October, as cloghead said. Fairly dry really. Waiting for the winds now

Firstly I'm not going to be using a motorcycle so I have no worries there. And I don't mind rain as such and in fact i really like the smell of the vegetation after the rain finishes and the sun comes out. Like I said in my original post my only desire was to be able to miss several days of protracted grey cloudy skies which i will risk now. So thank you for your advice but I will also leave itsmile.png

Gracias craig--that's the best site I've come across (and I've looked high & low). I especially like the fact they don't ask for a subscription for a detailed service...

Thanks again
