I've borrowed my gf's dad's Dmax as we're going away for a few days but I can't find where the cigarette lighter socket is.

I was planning on using my phone as a SatNav.

I'm sure I'm just being blind but I can't see it. There must be one there surely!!!

Help me out please!

I rather doubt you'll find cigarette lighters on the DMax. But you might find power ports, which would be covered with a round piece of plastic, which makes them look like just a covering for an empty hole. If you don't find one on the dash or center console, try looking at at the back of the center console (looking forward from the back seat) as sometimes they are placed there.

Found the power socket in the glove box (calling it the fag lighter must just be my age).

Had already looked in the dash and behind the centre console to no avail.

Still at least I can now use Google Maps on my phone to get nicely lost. Searching for the hotel name in Thai or English shows it to be completely different places about 40/50 km apart!

Still at least in Khao Yai / Wang Nam Khiao it should be a nice drive.......

How old is the car? Very well possible it does not have USB for the stereo.

Wouldn't a USB port be on the face of the stereo if it had one, so how hard would it be to find? It's not going to be in the glove box or under a seat is it?

I think in my Navara it was in the glove box.

A USB port for the stereo was in the glove box? Not very convenient if you wanted to change sticks while you're driving. All the stereos I've ever seen incorporate the USB port on the face somewhere.

I think so, but would be glad to be corrected.

I did not need or use it and don't have the car anymore, so can't check.

Don't know how I missed it before.

Now to get the USB stick loaded up with tunes before the trip tomorrow!

Hopefully the end of the stupid questions for now...........

In the centre of the dash down where it meets the centre console. Couldn't make out the USB symbol before because it's parked somewhere quite dark,

Hmmm, doesn't have interior light either...?

Ford Focus and Mitsubishi Lancer are cars I've driven in the last few months with the USB port in the glove box.

There's no USB on the stereo itself? So if you want to change sticks you either have to stop the car and do it, or climb into the passenger seat at 100 kph and change it. Makes sense. This is a review from C Net.

"The placement of the USB port was a bit inconvenient. We actually had to consult the car's manual to find it, as it is mounted in the top of the glovebox. We prefer USB ports mounted in the console, as they are easier for the driver to reach quickly, useful if you are constantly plugging and unplugging a device."

So obviously it can be in the glovebox.

Yes, it can, and the reason I laughingly suggested that as an unlikely place is because it just doesn't make any more sense than putting it in the boot.

When you can buy a tiny 16GB USB drive for only 250 baht, how often do you need to be changing USB drives while driving? It's not like having to change a CD because it only has 20 songs per CD. Even ripping music in some super high quality format most people are still going to be able to fit 20+ CDs worth of music on a 16GB drive.

Plus the passenger can change the USB as well if necessary.

Cigarette Lighters are becoming an optional extra in a lot of vehicles these days.

In the D-MAX there is a Power Outlet/socket the same as a cigarette lighter, works fine. there are also a couple of other power lines of some sort in the glove box as well, I don't use either and don't know what their use is.

There are 2 interior lights in the D-MAX and there is also a light in the glove compartment that only works when the parking/headlights are on.
