"We shall treat them in line with humanitarian principles, respect for their human rights and international laws. But we will have to deport them," he said.

Well considering Thailand is an alleged member of the UN, they have rights to remain when seeking asylum, and Thailand should treat them as asylum seekers fleeing a vicious regime, and not be simply hell bent on getting 'this low life scum', as it sees them, merely deported a.s.a.p.

I am interested to know why the influx occurs after the monsoon period though. Don't want to get their feet wet? whistling.gif

Get real!! They originally entered Burma illegally. They are different in religion and ethnicity. They have no rights unless they apply for Asylum in the correct way. If they enter a country illegally, then they are criminals. Why would a Buddhist Nation like Thailand want 10,000 more Muslims when they can't handle the ones already here.

Can you imagine 10,000 buddhists arriving on the shores of Saudi Arabia and how they would be treated ??

There are 135 different Ethnic groups in Myanmar.

Not all are Buddhist.

The Rohingya are one of them and one of the most persecuted.

They are not illegal migrants. They have lived in this region for generations. Centuries according to some records.

You are reading the wrong records/ The rohingya were descended from people who migrated to Burma (illegally). they tried to carve out their own patch when the British left but failed. How would you feel if some of these people entered your house and began living there and expecting you to feed them etc.

It's not me reading the wrong records.

Someone is though, I'll grant you that.

An insensitive/rascist post has been removed.

Re the Rohingya:

- The main Rohingya influx occurred many decades ago, when the British still ruled both India (as Bangladesh at that time was). I am not sure that can be classified as illegal migration and in any event, the current Rohingyas were almost all born in Burma, sometimes second or third generation so.

- Bangladesh refuses to accept them (or more accurately perhaps, their descendants) back.
