Popular Post KhnomKhnom
I find it demeaning to read so many foreigner crybaby childish rants on what should be a forum for adults staying in Thailand because it connects me as an adult foreigner with this wailing and teeth grinding as if it were standard for every foreigner here. -Sure you need to carry your passport in a foreign country. -Sure you should marry your Thai gf if you want parent rights, and have other economic relationships finalized (mainly to help her after your dying first). -Sure, you should not conceive a child unless you are married to the Thai mother. -Sure Thailand does not owe you special breaks on anything just because you are here; things like never having a police stop, like getting in free to public shows and parks, and forgiving you because you are fully drunk at 3am staggering on a street. -No, you do not "purchase" a free pass to do anything you think of just because you are a "valued foreigner" here. -Yes, Thailand will not collapse if you stay away; face it, you spend money only on beer, etc., in a little life and the nation can easily live without you or your "huge bankroll." -No, Thailand does not care "how you do things at home." -Yes, Buddhism is a legitimate belief system easily equal to your own. -Yes, foreigners can live here for over 20 years and NEVER get scammed by locals. -Yes, foreigners can live here for over 20 years and NEVER be shaken down by police. -Yes, you want immigration officials to be able to cut you some slack on a minor problem, but you do not like them having individualized discretion in evaluating your case. -Sure, you are not insulted to be asked to TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF while here and not become a burden on the state (having bank account and or income is necessary, duh). Sadly, not nearly a complete list. And, yes, I know my message right here is a rant. Oh, then there is the seeming rabid drive to make a comment on a post regardless if your comment adds anything; actually this site exists so you can rant, insult, dismiss, and otherwise try to humiliate other typists here. I say, grow up

Popular Post Costas2008
OK, calm down OP, I do believe you and agree with most of your points. I will just list the points I do not agree. 1. We are not treated as adults on the forum, so sometimes we do react as children. 2. Why should I be married to conceive a child? Which age are you living in? 3. Thailand will suffer if we all go away. Do not under estimate the contribution of the expats in this country. 4. Thailand should care how you do things at home. They adapt to, and take all new trends from the west so they do care how we do things at home. 5.We are not a burden on the state, and we will never be, but the state puts burdens on us that sometimes they are without logic or reason. These are the points I disagree with you but at least I'm calm.
huawei
I think the skill of being in a forum is to not be too bothered by other peoples postings ..and to counter balance it with sensible , humourous, succinct ones..of which #1 has none of those characteristics.

Popular Post StreetCowboy
I still can't remember the word for a thing that describes itself - maybe Autological.... Edit; it seems Autological is normally only applied to single words, but the ironic autology of the O P was sadly insufficiency surprising to warrant even a sardonic chuckle. I assume the Poster posts for our and his own entertainment, in which case I would rate it about three out of ten; fair grammar and decent paragraphs warrant some praise. If, on the other hand, he is seeking to change the way people post, I would rate it much lower for effectiveness; but at least he'd get a sardonic chuckle and a better mark for entertainment, particularly if he persists SC Edited October 14, 2014 by StreetCowboy
laislica
The OP seems to be a fairly new member. His post reflects everything I felt a few months after I joined. This forum is anonymous and therein lies the problem. It is far too easy to lob hand grenades and cut and run. It is also too easy to get sucked into showing the same bad behaviour. I agree that it is a shame because there is some great and helpful info here. There are also silly and fun topics too. My thoughts are that it is never good to feed Trolls! If you feel that your "buttons are being pushed", stop following that thread and move on. (Time to practice what I preach I hear you say LOL) Pick and choose the topics you follow carefully. And keep smiling.

Cypress Hill
3. Thailand will suffer if we all go away. Do not under estimate the contribution of the expats in this country. Never ceases to amaze me just how much people need to feel special, revered and even "useful" There's never going to be a memorial at Suvarnabhumi or Victory Monument commemorating your modest pension's colossal contribution to Thailand's economy so try to get over it . . . . canuckamuck
I think it is about time we cut down on the anti-rant ranting. This post would be funnier if I now included a rant, but I am tired. Please think of something funny I might have said and then give me a like for it.
DerekMarshall
"-Sure you need to carry your passport in a foreign country." Photocopy including copy of page of your visa is usually suffice as is Thai id such as residence card or Thai Driving Licence! "-Sure you should marry your Thai gf if you want parent rights, and have other economic relationships finalized (mainly to help her after your dying first)." No, not true, Family court can be petitioned and you can gain legal parental rights by legitimising the birth of said child. "-Sure, you should not conceive a child unless you are married to the Thai mother." No, not true (see above). I know many Thai lady´s that have a child with a Thai partner outside of marriage, even in the smallest most remote villages in nowhereville! Before you rant and rave about should´s and should not´s get your facts straight and your head out your bum! What you should not do is tell others how to live their lives and what they should do or not do - who the funk are you to do that? Live and let live! T00sser!
