Dermatologist recommendation (Bangkok)

Featured Replies

Hi,

Can anyone recommend a good dermatologist in Bangkok?

Thanks

Please indicate the type of problem - some derms specialize in cosmetics, some in general derm problems, and only a few have expertise with skin cancers, so type of problem would affecr who I would recommend.

I have a rash on my buttock (don't laugh...). It's been there for quite some time now, probably almost a year, but it has gotten a lot bigger since I moved here in August and it isn't getting any better.

It looks quite similar to the attached picture.

I've ignored it until now, as it hasn't bothered me, but as it is getting worse I think it's about time I had it looked at.

Thanks

Thanks Sheryl. Any idea of the cost of a consultation with either of them?

Dr. Niyum, maybe 1500 baht. Dr. Parichart I think about 800. And add 100-200 hospital charge.

Don't buy medication at the hospital esp not at Bumrungrad, huge mark-up. Find out what they are prescribing and buy it yourself at an outside pharmacy.

As you have lived with this already for a year, it would not hurt to first try an antifungal cream like clotrimazole in case this is ringworm. If despite regular application for 2 weeks it shows no change then likely not ringworm and best off to a doctor.

Psoriasis is another possibility, as are impetigo and contact dermatitis. It will not hurt any of those conditions to apply an anti-fungal (though it will also not help) so I don't think you lose anything by trying. If you do see noticeable improvement with anti-fungal cream then continue until 100% resolved.

Do not however self-treat with a steroid cream as that will help come conditions but worsen others. Beware that many Thai derm creams mix steroids with other ingrediants. If you decide on a self-trial of anti-fungal, make sure what you get contains that only.

I developed a very similar looking rash on the top and side of my foot a number of years ago, not long after I had to wade through some very polluted floodwater. I went to a local health clinic in Bangkok. They suspected "Contact Dermatitis" and gave me QUADRIDERM, an ointment available over the counter locally. (B200-300/4G tube) It contains anti-fungal, anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial and anti-biotic agents. It seemed to work for me as the rash completely disappeared over the next 5 to 10 days.

I believe one of the components is a steroid so taking Sheryl's advice and first trying a straight anti-fungal is probably your best course of action but keep Quadriderm in mind should nothing else work.

Strange, I replied to Sheryls last post but it seems to have disappeared.

Thanks for the advice Sheryl. I will try clotrimazole first and see how that goes, and if it doesn't get any better I will make an appointment with the Doc.

Thanks again!

dddave thanks for the info. I will bear that in mind if the anti-fungal doesn't work.

Thanks!

Dr. Niyom Tantikun Bumrungrad, he is the guy for me, diagnosed my condition before I'd even sat down after three years dicking around in Pattaya and another hospital in Bangkok.

All they knew was expensive creams.

AS most know Bumrungrad is not inexpensive, they charge like a wounded bull, so now I'm a bit boracic I go to him to diagnose my skin, he spotted a melanoma recently, and I get the surgery at Government Hospitals nowadays.

anyone know of a dermatologist that specializes in skin cancer? I have some rough patches on my face that are not healing that I need looked at. I really would like to find the best dermatologist in Thailand for skin cancer.

I am in Hua Hin but I think I need to go to Bangkok to find someone who knows what they are doing.

I am sort of freaked out so thanks in advance.

Dr. Niyom, Bunrungrad. Very good, US trained.
