webfact Posted October 21, 2014 Posted October 21, 2014 Redshirt core member sentenced one year in prisonBANGKOK: -- The Appeals Court today upheld the one year imprisonment sentence ruled by the Criminal Court on a redshirt core member after rejecting his appeal.Somchai Phaibul, 45, a former Bang Bon district councillor of the defunct Thai Rak Thai party, and a core member of the redshirt United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD), was found guilty on several charges which included illegal assembly, instigating unrest, violence, defiance of emergency decree, and starting violent protests that led to many casualties during the 2010 bloody riot. The Criminal Court sentenced him to one year in prison with no suspension of jail term.He appealed the sentence. In today’s hearing of his appeal, the Appeals Court also ruled him guilty as charged and upheld the one-year imprisonment with no suspension. His appeal for lighter sentence was rejected with reason that the one year term in prison was appropriate. The redshirt core member and his lawyer were considering whether to appeal to the Supreme Court, as he has already served almost one year in prison pending court trials, with three more months remaining if the one year sentence was counted from the day when he was put in jail.Source: http://englishnews.thaipbs.or.th/redshirt-core-member-sentenced-one-year-prison/ -- Thai PBS 2014-10-21 1
Bangmod Posted October 21, 2014 Posted October 21, 2014 for all those charges, I think the sentence isn't doing any justice. Bet a box with some cakes were dropped off at the court house..

Popular Post ginjag Posted October 21, 2014 Popular Post Posted October 21, 2014 however the casualties were made by the bullets shot by the army... Oh Yes ???? no one else was armed. All the reds were doing was being present with a low profile peaceful demonstration-----and pigs will fly. Get real, get some truth into your posts--how about a broader picture. 18
TechnikaIII Posted October 21, 2014 Posted October 21, 2014 1 up!! Hundreds to go!! Rather, let's hope it's "One down" .. but yes.
Popular Post The stuttering parrot Posted October 21, 2014 Popular Post Posted October 21, 2014 Actually this decision will only galvanise the people of Thailand at the next election. More red shirt sacrificial lambs going to jail for standing up for their democratic while the yellow elite hide behind their faceless men and walk free will give the people more reason to reject those who instigated the robbery of power of two democratically elected leaders who won with the greatest majorities in Thailand political history. This might seem harsh now but the world is watching and Thailand has been widely condemned for their actions. Quite rightly the PTP are biding their time and these actions will only swell their numbers at the ballot box. 6

With your blind hatred for anything red, I wonder if Yingluck has turned you down on a dating-site?? Doubt Yingluck would be interested in a farang - unless they are President of a foreign country. Blind hatred of all things red - more like correcting a biased and incorrect statement by a red supporter. 5

You are sounding more like the Socialist Workers Party or Artthur Scargill when you post this drivel. Most Thais now fully understand what the Shin version of democracy looks like. The Shins can do what the want, you do what you're told and don't dare to question. I say most because a large section of the poor Isaan people will continue to be mislead, lied to, bribed, threatened and intimidated to vote for the people's party in whatever incarnation Thaksin decides to call it. He'll be at home in India with Yinggy. Some of the most corrupt and shameless politicians in the world. Maybe they can have tea with Jayalalitha - she could teach them a thing or two. 10
Popular Post greenchair Posted October 21, 2014 Popular Post Posted October 21, 2014 When suthep went to the court for almost all the same charges, the judge said the goal was oust the government through protest. Since that was achieved, the protest was worthwhile and no crime was committed. Same scenario, different sentence. 9

As for Yingluck--I would rather have a T-Bone steak thanks. Sorry it hurts you that a poster is not happy with the red control-----far more dubious than the army.

Popular Post jdinasia Posted October 21, 2014 Popular Post Posted October 21, 2014 however the casualties were made by the bullets shot by the army... Certainly not all of the deaths were from the bullets fired by the RTA. All of the casualties were a result of the red shirts and their actions. 9
PilotEd Posted October 21, 2014 Posted October 21, 2014 Any Yellow shirts going to be in cell with him or are they completely innocent of any wrong doing. It seems to me that Suthep was doing plenty of inciting.
In Town Posted October 21, 2014 Posted October 21, 2014 So interesting! The red shirts are the most advanced and modern Thais, while the yellows are still pre-modern, but still in charge. So sad that the courts now seem entirely politicised. If only we could get Thaksin back to clean up this mess, and send these guys back to the barracks. 1

The world is watching- haha haha Sorry to tell you but world could not care less and elite being untouchable is not any different to any other country in the world. You will also note the one with a jail sentence is just a "farmer " sort of speak , none of the elite red shirt leaders were jailed. Some convicted but released with good behaviour bond . Again no different to the rest of the world 2

"If only we could get Thaksin back to clean up this mess,...." What mess? It required the intervention of Prayuth and his merry men to clean up the "Thaksin" instigated mess. The only mess Thaksin would be fit for, should he ever return, is the officers mess at army HQ as a waiter. 2
