Quality Headset And Webcam For Skype Use

Featured Replies

I need to get Skype-ing, but all the cheapo microphones and web-cams I've tried were just that - cheap, and pretty awful.

Can you recommend quality gear that is available in Thailand, or just what you use and that works?

Much obliged.

I use a Microsoft Lifechat http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/en-us/p/lifechat-lx-3000 that I got cheaply in the UK. It works very well.

For a UK customer who wanted to be cordless I got these Bluetooth ones http://www.amazon.co.uk/August-EP650-Rechargeable-built-Smartphones-Red/dp/B00FZLV9L8/ which apparently are excellent. They use them with a SIP/POTS PBX.

Thanks for this. I'll search around for a source in Phuket.

How about a decent webcam? Any ideas?

Logitech. The HD ones with built in speaker are quite good. Look to spend 1500 baht up. Check on Amazon for user reviews.

Yes, I also like Logitech webcams, and MS ones arent bad either. Go for the HD versions as mentioned. You can sometimes find these on offer from Amazon for well under GBP20 but of course that wont help you if buying here.

I went for a sennheiser headset.. much better as mentioned here.. but that is not had for 1500 bt. The other party seems to really know the difference. I once changed it over for a MS one (not cheap over 1500bt) and the people i was talking with (who were used to the sennheiser heard the difference in the mic.

So it depends on how much your willing to spend and how good your quality needs to be.

Just to say I've been using very inexpensive, locally purchased OKER headsets while using Skype for the last 6 years. Voice quality has always been reported as good by people I call in the US and audio quality on my end is loud and clear. Build quality is OK except for the earpads which are covered in a cheap faux-leather that falls apart after about 2 years use but for under B200, not bad.

I recently got a logitech hd webcam from lazada. The lowest price hd model had 2 options. Webcam alone or same model webcam with a bundled headset for cheaper.

Headset was a funny behind the head band position so gave it away but worth the discount.

I use Plantronics Blackwire 435. Nice and small to carry around. Most Plantronics stuff seems pretty good.

Yes, I've got some Oker stuff - multi-way USB card reader, external USB HDD box - so I'll have a look at their stuff.

Thanks for the info. I'll be looking around today in the local computer shops.
