Hello,

I'll come to Thailand on December and I'm looking for a studio around Sukhumvit Soi 71 or Soi 77 (On Nut). I prefer a studio with TV/fridge/microwave for maximum 7000 baht/pm on a 6 month or 1 year contract. Also I prefer a place with a swimming pool.

Years ago I stayed with my gf at Krongthong Mansion on On Nut. It is a nice option, but doesn't have a swimming pool.

Someone suggested Contemp at Suk 71 on another thread, but a Thai friend called them and they said the price is 8000 baht.

I found another place called Pornphirun Place also at Suk 71. I think the prices are about 7000b and it has a nice swimming pool as well. Has anyone stayed at this place, do you recommend it?

Other recommendations are greatly appreciated as well.

Thanks a lot

Well, that is how I found Pornphirun Place. But for that price range, the search results are very limited. Most accomodation websites list only 4-5 places for that price range and the info is usually outdated. They don't usually return mails as well. Contemp didn't return for example, so I had to tell a Thai friend to call them.

Depending on their occupancy, at times Contemp's owner will negotiate. If you are financially able, offer him the full rental term up front, he does like lump sums. I live nearby and have several friends who have stayed there. The swimming pool is very small...like 2 strokes a lap. It is a pretty good deal as almost everything (fridge, microwave, TV & cable, WiFi) are included in the price.

Contemps location, despite being very close to '71, is really very quiet. Moto taxi to BTS is B20, 15 to 20 minute walk. Many decent but inexpensive restaurants nearby including some with western selections. Supermarket close by as well.

As I recall, electricity is marked up to B7/unit. One friend ran his a/c pretty much 24/7 and his bill came to about B2000/mo.

Me Sawan 2, off Pridi 14 (take soi 1 off 14, then first left to end) has a recently renovated, decent sized pool and a fitness room. Nice studios so usually full but worth checking out.

There are a fair number of newly constructed apartment buildings in the side sois off Pridi 14 though most won't have pools. The downside with Pridi 14 is it is tough walking...narrow and congested with no sidewalks.

I believe there are several decent buildings with pools off Pridi 25.

There is an athletic club with a large pool off either Pridi 47 or 49 with daily use rates.

dddave,

You are great help as always, thank you very much. I got aware of Contemp thanks to you, its location is really great. They told my Thai friend that with or without contract its 8000 baht, and I was surprised, since most of the condos usually give cheaper prices for 6 month/1 year contact. But when I go to Bkk, I'll negotiate as you told.

I couldn't find any info on Me Sawan 2, do you have an e-mail address or phone number please?

Thanks a lot again.

Don't bother replying to the person above, cause most probably he is a troll, leaving similiar messages to similiar topics. Like this:

Well, 2,000 baht is good enough for me.  Some of those places are quite luxurious!  Considering I've been homeless(hello ladies! giggle.gif ) for much of my life, that tuk tuk room would be a massive improvement in my standard of living.w00t.gif  I'm just a homeless man seeking shelter in Pattaya, Thailand.  Don't need anything special!  In fact, was considering downsizing to a 1,000 baht (monthly) shell room but I think I'll "upsize" to 2,000 baht per month. Kindof feel rich right now so I guess I'll "splurge" a little.clap2.gif

Thanks to dddave, I'm living at The Contemp now & I'm quite happy. But I wanted to share the info about places that I found while I was looking for a room, in case it helps someone.

Pridi Banomyong (Suk 71)

At Soi 2 there is a place called Happy Place. It was full when I checked it, but I think it is quite cheap.

At Soi 14 there is Mee Suwan Tower, again it was recommended by dddave. The place is quite old, but the room rates are starting from 5500 and there is a big pool. They don't rent TV or Fridge.

Again at Soi 14 there is a really modern place called K-House 71. Rates are starting from 6900 baht for 1 year contract or 7200 baht for 6 months. Wi-fi is free but TV and fridge are 700 baht each. The place was full when I checked.

At Soi 16 there is Asean Tower. This is also quite an old place and rates are starting from 6000 baht. They also don't rent TV or Fridge.

At Soi 21 there is Pornpirun Place. It has been renovated and quite decent. Rates are starting from 7000 baht for minimum 6 month contract. Wi-fi is free, but it says 600 baht for TV and fridge. I don't know if it is the total price or for each.

Again at Soi 21 there is V.I.P.Mansion. The place is quite old but cheap. Rates are starting from 4500 baht for 1 year contract, 5000 for 6 months or 5500 for 3 months.

On Nut (Suk 77)

At Soi 8 there is Golden On Nut. Rates start from 7000 baht. TV, fridge and wi-fi are 500 baht each.

Between Soi 19-21 there is Krongthong Mansion, which is a very modern place. Rates start from 6500 baht for 1 year contract, 7000 for 6 months and 7700 for 3 months. TV, fridge, wi-fi not included.

Suk 81

KV Mansion is really modern and very close to the BTS. Rates are starting from 8000 baht. They are giving free Tv for 6 months contract and TV+Fridge for 1 year.

Your Space Apartment starts from 8000 baht. Fridge and TV 700 baht each, wi-fi 500 baht.

Pornpanasap Residence starts from 8000 baht.

Wow!!...Prices for single rooms are really up since I last looked; supply and demand I guess. Every time I ride the Skytrain I'm reminded of how much the population of the BTS corridor has increased in the last 5 years. Three car trains used to be half full in the daytime, now five car trains are always packed.

These prices make "Contemp" seem even a better deal than I thought with everything they include.

I would suggest anybody renting one of these places for a year or more to buy there own fridge and flat screen TV. If kept clean and in good condition they are very easy to sell for somewhere around 75% of what you paid. When I recently bought a new fridge and wanted to sell the old one, I put a "for sale" notice up near my buildings mailboxes and it was sold within 2 hours. Same was true for a friend who sold his 32" flatscreen TV when he moved; sold same day to another tenant of the building. An older style "tube type" TV might not be so easy to sell.
