Hakodate Mayor visits PRD Deputy Director-General

BANGKOK, 19 November 2014 (NNT) - Hakodate Mayor Mr. Toshiki Kudo and executives from Japan have paid a visit to the Deputy Director-General of the Public Relations Department (PRD) Mr.Charoon Chaisorn to discuss cooperation on Thai-Japanese cultural relations and tourism.


Mr. Charoon welcomed the mayor and along with 14 members of his entourage of 14 members during their visit to Thailand to promote tourism of Hakodate city, which is Hokkaido's port city for trading. The visit aims to tighten ties with the PRD, while also discussing cooperation on boosting Thai-Japanese cultural promotion.

Apart from the PRD, other related agencies welcoming the mayor include the National Broadcasting Services of Thailand (NBT), Radio Thailand, and the National News Bureau of Thailand (NNT).

Hakodate is situated on the south of Hokkaido island and is surrounded by cool weather and beautiful natural scenery. The city is developing towards becoming an economic hub. Hakodate is one of Japan's first international ports that has been chosen as one of Japan's most charming cities according to a geographical survey of areas in Japan in 2014.

Over 30 tourist destinations in Hakodate are featured in Japan's Michelin Green Guide tour book for those interested in visiting Japan. A spectacular nightlife view can also be seen from the top of Hakodate mountain. Moreover, apart from freshly-cooked seafood, the city has been famous for its hot springs that attracts over 5 million tourists per year.

PM stresses flood prevention and adequate water distribution in the northeast

BANGKOK, 19 November 2014 (NNT) – The Prime Minister has urged northeastern provincial governors and related agencies to adequately distribute water to consumers in the area to prevent water shortages.


Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha met with 20 governors from the northeastern provinces of Thailand to follow up on government policies, prepare to deal with drought problems, and to heed input from the Damrongtham centers.

The premier stressed that there must not be a shortage in water and that the provinces had to adequately manage its agricultural zones in order to efficiently distribute water. Furthermore, he urged the governors to prevent next-year’s flood, which will be a deciding factor in the effectiveness of the local administration.

He also tasked all agencies to tackle the problem of fake fertilizers, which would adversely affect impoverished farmers as well as to ensure the quality of rice that is to be exported in order to gain confidence in the world market.

First public hearing on BMA’s Grey-Line Monorail held

BANGKOK, 19 November 2014 (NNT) – The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) held the first public hearing on the development of its Grey-Line Monorail project.


Bangkok Governor MR Sukhumbhand Paribatra said after opening the public hearing that today's discussion focused on the first-phase construction of the 16-kilometer-long Monorail line which covers fifteen stations from Watcharaphon area to Rama IX Bridge.

He added similar public hearings would be arranged until the middle of 2015. All opinions would be compiled and sent to the National Environmental Board who would consider the most appropriate time to begin the construction and estimate the prospects of the service. It is estimated that the Grey Line would service 160,000 passengers per day.

The Grey Line Monorail project is planned to absorb the rising number of passengers using the underground system and other mass transport systems in Bangkok such as the Sathorn-Ratchapreuk Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) as well as Airport Rail link.

Industries' sentiment index improves

Eight dead in two road accidents in Nakhon Si Thammarat, Ayutthaya

NAKHON SI THAMMARAT, Nov 19 -- Eight people were killed and 33 were injured when a train collided with a sedan in Nakhon Si Thammarat province and a coach hit two pickup trucks in Ayutthaya province this morning.

Rapid Train 83 from Bangkok heading for Trang province hit a Honda car with Songkhla registrations plate at a railway crossing where there is no barrier in Thung Song's Kapang sub-district at about 9.30am.

The car was thrown onto the side of the tracks and caught fire.

Two people in the car were instantly killed and two others succumbed to their injuries at local hospitals.

Elsewhere, in Ayutthaya, two pickup trucks cut in on a convoy of coaches carrying staff of Bangkok's Budget Bureau to Chiang Mai province.

One coach hit both trucks when a pickup truck was making a swift turn into a minor road off Highway 347 (the Bang Pahan-Pathum Thani Road) on which the convoy and the trucks were running. The incident happened in Bang Pahan's Pho Sam Ton sub-district at 7.50am.

Four people, including three drivers, were killed and 33 others were injured in this accident. Both trucks were thrown off the highway. (MCOT online news)

Chart Pattana Party wants neutral PM to break national deadlock
