Are you an immigration officer?

No.

Get him busted, arrested and deported.

It will keep all the sanctimonious creeps on here happy and screw up some bodies life, which is what they want.

You will have the satisfaction that keeps you warm at night. and you will feel much better, knowing that he is in a cell somewhere.

Alternatively, take his wife's ID for booking purposes or his driving licence.

We are all guests here.................

My only concern is if they stop him,and they know that he sleep here, can i get in trouble?Only that.I will never report him

I doubt it they cant expect you to be ab expert on visas and such. If you run a bar and a cluet drives drunk your not responsible either.

No, you cannot get into trouble. Your only obligation is to report his arrival and that's the end of it for you.

The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place

No.

How refreshingly different from the UK, where banks, employers and landlords are being turned into immigration officers and are encouraged to penalise people merely for not having the preferred documents.

yea, you have no need or reason to even look at his visa or entrie stamp.its none of your business.

kind of embarrassing for you to butt in to someones business when you have no authority to do so

He does have to look at his guests' passports and copy some information onto the form TM.30

For the last few months, everytime that I've checked in a Bangkok hotel, receptionists took note in their guestbooks of nationality, passport number and expiry date of permit of stay.

Meanwhile in seaside resorts, they still not even ask to see a passport...

Tayida,

From Khao Yai, he can clear his overstay by doing a border run to Aranyaprathet. It wil probably take about 3 hours each way in a car and an extra one hour at the border.

Thai immigration may ask to see a flight ticket out of the country.

I think you need to do what you are obliged to do by law, no more no less.

Why not give him a place to stay.....

You are also obliged to report that he is staying at your hotel to the local police.

Then let the Thai authorities do their job.

I don't wish to be a sanctimonious creep, but I would not risk my hotel licence or possible prosecution.

Strange. No one is ever looking at my stamps and most of the time Ive Used DLs to check in. (Not thai DL)

As Maestro said, just fulfill your legal obligations to report his presence and if they feel like doing something, let them. It isn't your problem.

I don't know in what kind of hotel/place you are staying, but I often accompany my friends to their hotel when they arrive in Pattaya,

and the hotel *always* asks and makes copies of their passports. xermm.gif.pagespeed.ic.7f2Kr9k8HC.png

As for myself, the only places in Thailand who didn't ask for my passport were some small guesthouses where I was staying just for 1 night. unsure.png.pagespeed.ce.E7Vo3qsmeC.png

He said sanctimoniously.

Why not give your own opinion/advice regarding the question asked without speaking on behalf of other posters who appear to exist only in your imagination?

The O/P had a legitimate question about what his responsibility was under the law. He is expected to record and report some information about guests to immigrations and was just trying to save himself from unnecessary grief with immigrations regulations that he did not fully understand.

It is non of the hotels business to keep track of overstayers.

You are in business to welcome guests and make sure they are OK. There are the immigration officials to take care of overstayers when they leave the country.

Some abusive and inflammatory posts have been removed.

Can someone remind me of the fine for not reporting to immigration an alien residing in your property.

To the OP, immigrations job to deal with overstay, not yours.

Fine Figure still would be appreciated.

Fine is a maximum of 2,000 baht, for hotel owners and such the fine can be between 2,000 and 10,000 baht.

Yes they ask for passport, each time, but i give them my DL.

From immigration act.
"Section 77 : Whoever fails to comply with the provision of Section 38, shall be punished with a fine not
exceeding 2,000 Baht. If said person is a hotel manager, he shall be punished with a fine from 2,000 Baht
to 10,000 Baht."

Much appreciated, up to ฿10000 for private abode I take it.

Thanks UJ, ฿2000 for private abode.

The forms states "NOTIFICATION FROM FOR HOUSE-MASTER, OWNER OR THE POSSESSOR OF THE RESIDENCE WHERE ALIEN HAS STAYED"

Yes, you must report all guests, your duty as possessor of the residence.

T.M 30 can be downloaded here.

http://www.immigration.go.th/nov2004/en/base.php?page=download

You can also as a hotel manager do it online after getting an account at immigrations.

For his 40 day overstay he has to pay 20,000 baht and leave the country.

Best for him to apply for a tourist visa while abroad and have 20,000 in cash with him to show if asked when he returns to Thailand.
