Broadband internet speeds.

Featured Replies

Today I tested my broadband speed to a server in London UK, using uk.testmy.net, as suggested on another thread here on TV., for getting more real life results.

The average results were: 2.1Mbps Down 26.2kB/s

785Kbps Up 98kB/s

The maximum 8.6Mbps Down 1.1MB/s

1Mbps Up 127kB/s

I also tried a ping test.

Average 281.031ms

None of this means anything to me. Can anyone tell me if these results are good? Bad? Or normal?

I understand that these will be worse than testing using something like Ookla, as that apparently gives cached results from a server in Thailand.

Thanks.

I think you already have a good understanding of how it works...

Yes, I would say those results are normal for un-cached speedtests..

Thanks. Been reading up on it today. Just wasn't sure how speeds related to others. No need to pester my ISP then. smile.png

Yes, that's normal. Testmy.net isn't fooled by local cache servers like most flash-based testers like speedtest.net and the ISP's flash-based testers. Thai ISP "international" speeds are throttled/not that great....they just don't buy enough international bandwidth since the great, great majority of their customers are Thais (this is Thailand) connecting to "in-Thailand" websites. Generally, domestic bandwidth/speed is good. Plenty of international bandwidth, but Thai ISPs just don't buy enough.
