It would be great if General Prayut hired a forensic accounting team, and worked out

where all that money came from. Oh guess that will not be happening.....

Did you "guess" what's happening now?

Keep up the good work, P.M. Prayut, everyone with a brain is behind you :) The levels of greed of some of these guys is almost beyond belief !

This has nothing to do with cracking down on corruption. Ask your thai guys at work or someone who has a clue what's going on.

OB

So...then...according to YOUR "thai guys", or someone with a clue (which would be you naturally - for which we're all so unbelievably fortunate)... what is it that's REALLY going on...?

Can't say. Ask them

Why all the noise? i really do not get it

Getting into the force requires 300 000 plus and its no secret, getting promotion to Chief of Police, say in Pattaya requires some serious donations.

SO why all the fuzz now? as if it does not and did not go on for years.

Huh?

Foot-shuffling and unreasonable expectations aside, yes, it's obviously about corruption.

3-5 million for promotion? who can afford that ? where do they get the money ? and what kind of jobs they end up ? only if they can get 10 fold or more back off course ...

RTP ... the real maffia

When you offer pay so low as to be be difficult to live in the face of temptation why would anyone think that police would not be organized in their corruption. When I lived in Albania police used to stop traffic on the edge of all small towns to collect tea money and no one seemed to mind paying it because they knew police where so poorly paid. Without better pay or other of off setting rewards it is hard to believe a few publicized arrests like this will last more than a month or so before the old system comes right back. The police officers were willing to pay those big fees for assignments to where they would make it back quickly with the illicit income they too could make in one area instead of another.

So finally they discovered what was a well known public secret for a few decades already.

Really? Are you saying that Chalerm, Tharit and Thaksin knew about this for over 10 years??

This is standard in Thailand for "promotion", not just police, but military and many other professions. Buying jobs to get in the position to get the money from those wanting to move up the ladder.

Chances are many of those currently in power got to their senior ranks by this means.

Promotion to senior staff rank in the army isn't something that can be bought. What is required is patronage and the right family background; much like the British Army of the 18th and 19th centuries.

This has been the system for the past 1XXX years and probably will be for the next 1XXX years too! This is nothing more than a witch hunt.

"Witch hunt" Nahh mate Corrupt cops in high positions getting busted it's a loppollooza jamboree on a sunny spring afternoon as far as I am concerned.

Am a bit surprised by the LM accusations being leveled. It would appear that these

guys were all about money, why would they rock the boat with LM statements ??

Maybe in a corrupt country, corruption charges do not really stick. If you want

to put someone away for a long time, throw in a few LM charges...

I asked this question in the other thread on this topic yesterday -- what's the basis for the LM charges, when they're talking about bribery, malfeasance, etc. etc...

One of the news articles above says:

In demanding money from oil smugglers, the gang abused the royal names, he said.

So presumably, that means bringing discredit to the ROYAL Thai Police force, etc etc. At least, that's what it seems to mean.

BTW, the one thing I didn't see mentioned in ANY of the news reports here.

Assuming the criminal cases stand against all of the accused, what's going to happen to the billions in seized assets??? Where's it all going to go???

Funny that no one seems to be talking about that.

A forensic team needs piles of papertrail to work from. I doubt that these bribes were handledvwith a treacherous paper trail. Except the infamous brown envelopes wink.png

Agreed. There is certainly no movement of money overseas or domestically that

could be tracked with a paper trail. However given this staggering amount of money,

there is certainly some form of computer or notebooks keeping track of where it

came from. Just a matter of the police finding where the information is hidden..

I thought the exact same thing. Interesting to see as this story develops to see where

the money goes... Am going to guess this will never be mentioned....

Perhaps he can't, for the same reason that Jonathan Head, the BBC correspondent and president of FCCT has not reported on this.

Well..... has any body ever taught about the big criminals this guy has protected and how many innocent people have been sent to prison as scapegoats to cover for these big crimes.....

I am talking Robbery's, Murders, Drugs and weapons smuggling,....,deforestation and capture or killing of protected species,....on a massive scale for over 10 years.....and so much more....the damage done will be irreparable....

And just how do you think replacements and promotions into these now empty positions will be decided ? merit ? quality of work ? interview process and short list selection of the best candidate ? I dont think so somehow whistling.gif

So let me ask the obvious question...........If it cost 3 to 5 million baht to become an

officer in the Thai police department, what would it cost to be the chief of police for

all of Thailand ??? :-) The rumor for years that all positions were bought look like

a harsh reality. Also looks like the rumor that all underground casinos were either

run by the police or paid protection money to the police looks to be true as well.

What a lovely country this could be if the government actually cared about Thai people.

They are clans. Mobs. Crime syndicates. Feudal clans. Thing to do with police.

Here's a suggestion for the Junta. Disband the whole force fire every last officer in the country and make sure them or relatives for generations to come never ever be allowed to join the force for 180 years.

Burn the brown uniform. Stack them high in the center of Bangkok and burn them as a symbolic gesture to change.

Take a new force from the ranks of the military and change the uniform and everything about it's image. Hold trials for ex corrupt officers and jail them.

At least with this game plan you will eradicate the police clans in operation in Thailand.

The wage must be raised to at least quadruple the average Thai salary and they must be heavily looked after with pensions and medical care for all their families and education for all their families with a view to university and foreign scholarships. The entrance to the police must be of the highest standard. All police must be sent abroad for further education and continued improvement. Rank must be gained on merit alone. The country need this.
