Surprising you outran them. Well done!

But where possible, don't run away - you make yourself look like prey if you do that.

Try to make yourself big (arms out) and run back at them. Usually, they will be afraid of you.

Carry a stick?

Yeah, I'm going to call 'Troll' on this claim by JT. He must have used a Baht Bus to run away on. ;)

He probably paid over the odds for the great baht bus escape.

Running from dogs is a foolish thing to do.

(Imagining the scene did make me lol though!)

pointless reply from someone with no experience on the matter.

if you're riding/running/walking past and even turn back and confront them,

at some time you have to leave.

no thanks needed, just happy to help

LOL,

Yeah, in a dozen years in Thailand I have never had to deal with soi dogs.

carry a stick, umbrella, whatever - stand still and and stare them down. They'll probably try to sneak in a quick nip as you slowly turn to walk away - that's when the stick/umbrella is used wink.png

Umbrella is a good idea. You can hit them with it or hit the open switch and hold the open umbrella between you and the dogs. When walking always carry a big stick. On Ebay you can also buy a high pitch noise emitting unit and if they are not deaf will chase the away. When I was a letter carrier the best device was dog spray.

I think Raro just ordered one of those very effective high pitch noise devices from Ebay.

Never run away from soi dogs here in Thailand. If they bark at you , it doesnt mean they will bite you , only when you run or driving a bike at speed they will chase you , its their instinct that kicks in to protect the territory .

But if you walk slowly or stop , just stare them down , they will not bite you. Soi doga are cowards,

Several times I had 10-15 dogs barking at me late at night and I always just carried on , very slowly .

Really makes me wonder if some people are capable of understanding that they are dealing with a dog.facepalm.gif

Soi is where they live, their territory same as your house/condo/ studio for you.

When or if someone un invited walks into your house, do you go running to give them a hug or confront them?

This is no different,But dogs perceive things differently, and if they see/feel you are no danger to them they leave you alone.

ON occasion, if they see you as a threat they want to confront you.

Personally if i walk down the soi which has sleeping dogs i always try to keep as much distance as possible from the sleeping dog, simply out of respect.

Yes, respect, dog is a living being and is sleeping, me walking right past his nose is invading his personal space and without a need, why would i.

If its not possible to give them their space, i find greeting them works, yes just a simple "hello" in a nice tone of voice, dogs hear and feel the tone of sound, ie i am no threat.

On occasion, they do bark and try to run after me, in which case, again without a panic, i talk to them.

So far has not failed me and i do live in Thai residential area's with loads of soi dogs, plus have dogs of my own which i take out on daily walks.

All the posts of violence against the dogs, just shows how primitive some humans still are.

Who's gonna carry a spray bottle with them all the time? Maybe a lady with a purse, but then you've got to get the bottle out of the purse.

Anyway, this time I wasn't bitten so I'm having a hard time feeling I messed up with that incident.

Just to keep this rolling ... what do you do IF you are bitten by a soi dog besides get to a hospital? What's the process of rabies detection with a soi dog as no owner and they roam about ... or do you just assume it's high risk and go for the shots regardless?

Unless you are 100% sure dog has been vaccinated, you would need the shots.

From memory its 4 or 5 shots spaced out..

Shoulder injections, price ranges from 400-600 depending in the clinic.

The one on the corner of Pattaya Tai and 3 road is 450 baht.

Dr Olivier is 600 baht.

Minimal price difference but from experience, shots from the clinic do hurt as the "nurse doing it seems to have little clue how to inject(what part of the shoulder)

JT ... one of the Farm kids got bitten by one of the Farm Dogs.

Just a nip, they were playing.

No 'process of rabies detection' ... just straight into the shots.

One a day for 5 days from memory.

Wasn't on a bus route. No time to find a rock or even think really.

Sent from my Lenovo S820_ROW using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

You should of lowered 'little JT' out from his jock strap.........the mutts would of either turned and bolted in fear (being Patts they've probably heard about the DP Grindhouse flicks). OR they would of died laughing.

I've never heard of anyone being bitten by a soidog in Pattaya. except one news article about a young child that was bittten by the neighbours dog.

One of those 18 inch bamboo "Back scratchers". We have 5 dogs and loads around us and they are always fighting, I use the back scratcher as my Tool of choice for breaking them up . Cant really hurt them with it , but a good stinging WHAPP on the arse soon gets their attention and snaps them out of it

My girlfriend enjoys the "back scratcher" too-she squeels in delight thumbsup.gif
