Bangkok Motor Show

Featured Replies

Has anyone been to the motor show yet? Could not find another thread and the show had been open a couple of days now.

Anything to report?

Are the deals as good as they were expected to be?

Some good deals on the table - 0% financing and discounts - but you could probably get those deals at a dealership.

I wasn't seriously looking to buy but I think the benefit is seeing a wide range of models. We are looking for a small car as a run around and now we have a better idea of what to get. That's all it is for me.

The new MG6 looked nice and it looks like there's a little MG3 coming out, so that might be interesting.

Overall the women there were OK - and the salivating jerks with camera's taking photos of everything with a car were just mildly annoying, so not too bad.

Hi anybody got what deals Ford are offering on the Wildtrak 2.2

Thanks

I thought the Wildtraks were 3.2 ?

Hi Pedro01,

will be there this week on Friday, but as you are also looking for a small run around, maybe I ask if you managed to get the pricing of the new Mazda 2, especially the Diesel versions?

We did test drive the Ford Fiesta Ecoboost last week and thought it was a nice handling swift car to drive. Probably more fun than a Jazz.

Besides those 3 mentioned i guess there isn't much around....or of course one can go for just very little more cash and get a Hyundai Elantra, 749,000 and free insurance at motorshow. The Ecobosst is 754,000minus 50,000 discount, but no freebies more I was told.

thanks

frank

I think everything below 3.2 is labeled XLS or XLT not Wildtrak , this is according to Ford website Thailand.

I sit corrected , but you could have just said , " the website you are looking at is wrong , have a look at this. "

But you had to be offensive , oh well.

This MG^ is a 100% Chinese made car, British marquee but Chinese made.. and

for full price of a European car....no thanks..

I have been there last year, and I will go again as soon as I land tomorrow in LOS.

It is worth visiting even if you don't buy a car. There is a market of accessories inside and other gadgets.

Yes ... they are at the far end ... well the opposite end to where Isuzu are. It's free coffee at Meguiar's if you are lucky ... taste is ok for free .................

Couldn't agree more, especially those pretty girls or do you mean that with "gadgets" ;-)

I already have a motor but I was wondering if there was any stands with accessories like sat navs and compressors that plug into the cigarette lighter for pumping up wheels etc..

Sorry posted without reading , I see there is what I was looking for!

Has the Bangkok motor show has a website with a adress, map and manufacturers ?

Thanks.

Is this show any better / worse than the one they have in March , or is this show just an add-on ?

Whats about Motorsport activities in Thailand?

Are there race circuits around Bangkok / Chonburi?....events for cars and bikes? ...or motorsport clubs in general or clubs for Classic Cars?

Thanks for any information or recommodation.

I think this is the main one. As far as I know the other is the smaller in terms of exhibitors, visitors and sales.

Not fact but what I have picked up from people in the industry.

The Jazz's day is long gone. The Fiesta, Focus, and Mazda 2 and 3 are far more sophisticated cars.

I did stumble across a show of sorts in the mall in korat. Interesting to see the Honda hrv, which odly couldn't be seen in the dealer opposite and in both cases no brochure available! It's a good looking car with excellent interior finish and definitely fills a niche. Disappointing that a more modern engine isn't used(1.8 only) . I've recently emigrated here looking for a car and can't understand the logic of the range pertaining to all the manufacturers, namely why is only automatic transmission available once you get beyond the very basic model of even small cars( jazz, fiesta etc) and even the so called sporty models. And given that diesel is significantly cheaper in thailand ( the reverse of the uk) why the lack of diesel models unless you want a pickup or Fortuner/MU7 type monster. Obvious omission is the CRV which makes an excellent Diesel engine but not available here.

The HRV seems to come closest to what I want, but again stymied by automatic, but I overheard that earliest delivery is April!

Just to head any comments that I might be stuck in the past with my dislike of automatics I drove an M3 with paddle shifters until I left. It is sorely missed but clearly not feasible to have brought it over due to import restrictions.

If you have even driven in Bangkok for any amount of time, you will see why autos are popular here. Also, cvt gives close to the fuel economy of manual boxes, and many new autos shift faster than any manual could dream of. Resale on manuals suck as well. Only enthusiasts want them. I like manuals but there's no way I'd want one here, unless was visiting the track each weekend.

Chinese owned yes, but assembled in Thailand from >= 40% Thai made parts.

About the HRV, maybe it is Korat, but in Bangkok and Phuket they have both actual cars and brochures in the show rooms.

About the rest: I stopped trying to understand the car industry in Thailand....it always seems that the car they bring here (especially the Japanese brands) are never to the specs I would like them to be....but not only them and for most using rather 'old stock' engines. Ford Ecosport comes only with the 1.5l petrol! If it would have the 1.0 Ecoboost it would be a decent enough car. Mazda seems to be going a little less mainstream with the CX-5 diesel and now even the Mazda 2 diesel.

However, because they are using probably a bit more "old tech" than others they have the reputation for greater reliability....something Thais honour a lot. The New Toyota Vios has a 10 year old engine....albeit slightly modernized and updated.

Anyway....rant over....still waiting for the "Golden Egg" or the next car to replace the fun of my VW Golf GTI....(just so happy i found a website i can order stuff from for it....half the price than here in Thailand, coming from the USA....and delivery times of around 3-4 days).
