New Bangkok-Kuala Lumpur Route

New Bangkok-KL route

BANGKOK: -- German airline Lufthansa yesterday launched its new Bangkok-Kuala Lumpur route, which will see four flights a week between the capitals.

The new service comes at the right time to boost tourism between Asia and Europe, said Thierry Antinori, the local executive vice president for sales and marketing at the airline.

Lufthansa's new route will be operated using Boeing 747-400 aircraft.

Antinori pointed out that it was a good time to spread its wings in Southeast Asia, as Thailand was seeing a resurgence of confidence with a growth economy, which is forecast to become even stronger in the year ahead.

Another key is the high potential in the local tourism industry in which Germany is one of the most important markets, he said.

He said the country's tourism in particular is expected to continue to grow.

"With this route, Lufthansa will be the only European airline operating between Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur," he said, adding that the airline expects to run at more than 85-per-cent capacity on the route.

Moreover, Lufthansa's summer timetable for 2004 sees a 25-per-cent increase in capacity added to the region with 28 additional flights.
