Military Reminds Northeastern Radio Stations To Broadcast Junta Programs
By Khaosod English

NAKHON RATCHASIMA — Military officers have threatened to revoke the licenses of community radio stations in northeastern Thailand that refuse to broadcast the military junta’s daily talk shows.

At a press conference in the northeastern province of Nakhon Ratchasima today, the commander of a local army unit, Maj.Gen. Sermsak Niyamosot, said radio stations in the province must air all official state announcements in compliance with orders from Thailand’s military junta and the National Broadcasting and Television Commission (NBTC).

According to Saksri Wongwai, the NBTC director in Nakhon Ratchasima, "dozens" of radio stations in the province have failed to broadcast "Thailand Moves Forward," the daily 15-minute segment produced by the state that extols the military junta's efforts to reform Thailand's economic, social, and political sectors.

Saksri said some radio stations have also not complied with orders to broadcast junta leader and Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha’s weekly national addresses, a program titled "Returning Happiness to the People."

"Most of them are community radio stations run by monks," Saksri said at the press conference. "These monks claim that they cannot broadcast the [junta's daily programs] because that period of time is allotted for programs about Buddhist teachings."

Saksri also warned DJs against criticisng the military junta on the airwaves.

"[some DJs] like to express their opinion in a way that may cause disputes, distort information, or create confusion in society," Saksri told reporters.

"They like to criticise the work of the NCPO,..."

"Such actions are a threat to the security of the state," Saksri said. wai2.gifwai.gifshock1.gif

Where have I heard talk like this before?...

It's like Libya under Ghadaffi except if you kept your self to your self you could party and not get piss tested. But what is a military programme, martial music, the sound of marching, speeches? I do not remember other coups, after the initial blood letting being quite so bad.

Not a dictatorship......yet but sounding much like freedom of speech is eroding and military control is becoming more the law. I am sure moving the time slot for Buddha's teachings would appease both Buddha and the cops. Can't we all get along in the LOS?

' Must ' air all official announcements.

' Ordered ' to broadcast the P'S weekly ' happiness ' speech.

DR'S expressing their own opinions, what nerve !

You've just got to love this free speech thing, luckily this is not a dictatorship. wink.png

Just as well the military are running the show otherwise moving the teachings of Buddha to accommodate the teachings of the PM would attract all sorts of reaction.
