PHUKET: -- Maitree Narukatpichai, Executive Director of Fair & Firm Co, has told his side of the story regarding the encroachment claims on Sirinart Marine National Park.

His comments came after it was announced that the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Preservation (DNP) had recommended that the Land Department look into land titles owned by Fair & Firm, on which part of the Pullman Phuket Arcadia Naithon Beach sits.

Today (December 17) he told The Phuket News, “They [the Land Department] are checking the land deeds, which is their job.”

No decision has yet been made, he pointed out, and the investigation is still underway. “Our papers have not been rescinded,” he said. “We will decide what to do when or if that happens.”

“Every land deed we hold was issued by the Land Department. We bought the land and have paid all the taxes.”

Mr Maitree said he was distressed by stories in some media, which he said were one-sided and “have portrayed us in a negative light, affecting our business and how the tour companies perceive us.

“Please present the facts fairly because the investors do not understand [the whole picture] and they have invested a lot [in our property].

“Those title deeds were [originally] approved by the Land Department. If something is wrong, then it must be dealt with according to the law.”

The Phuket News notes that even if the Land Department does decide to rescind the land deeds as recommended by the DNP, long legal battles are likely to ensue – taking decades, perhaps – during which the resort will continue to operate as usual.

“They [the Land Department] are checking the land deeds, which is their job.”

Translation = someone got paid off to provide the documents and now they are deciding who is gonna take the fall for it and/or deciding who has to be paid next to make it all "legal" again.

Same Same. These people rely on the fact that it will take years to go through the courts. Now if they stopped them using the resort everything

will be sorted quickly.

Counting the cost of doing business in a corrupt society. The truth is there is no truth and nearly all in authority are on the take and will do anything to get their hands on large sums of money.

The Pullman wants fairness but unfortunately that's not what corruption offers. It could be argued that Pullman purchased the land legally and in good faith ... on the issue of fairness it could also be questioned whether they paid the Land Department officials to doctor the deeds and were therefore complicit.

Who knows the truth ... a few for sure but they won't tell.

AFAIK, the land plot in question has not yet been built on by the Pullman - the hotel sits on other land plots that are not in dispute.

It has gone rather quiet as to the status of 2 other 4/5 star hotels in the Nai Yang area, that have not been mentioned in the latest news.

One of these hotels, (as every man, woman, child and dog knows), sits 100% inside the National Park, as do its condos that foreigners have purchased.

The other 'spirited' hotel sits inside the NP, but its car park sits outside the NP - all this according to the NP office detailed map/measurements.
