News Agency Photo Manipulation

Yes, those accusations are serious, and if they are true, show a complete lack of respect for readers and the real victims of the war. Disturbing.

I originally thought it was confined to just the one free-lance photographer, and the (two ?) doctored pics he submitted.

Now it appears to be a lot more widespread.

I would question blaming the news media though. As one report mentioned (BBC ?), they get upwards of 5,000 photo submissions a day, from around the world.

In the rush to "get there the fastest, with the mostest", they don't have time to scrutinize every pic. The bloggers and other net-junkies can spend hours pouring over a single photo, looking for flaws and signs of skullduggery.

Also remember that organizations like Reuters feed news and articles to other media outlets. So a picture showing up in the New York Times or London Sun may not have been taken by a reporter working for those papers, but rather a freelancer that sold his pics Reuters.

Those freelancers may have agendas of their own (obviously) and be more willing to "make things look more favourable" to certain groups of people, in exchange for exclusive pics and interviews, cash, security or other incentives.

Note: in that film clip from the link, the guy at the end (bare chested with the green hat) ? Bloggers pointed out that he appeared in other pics helping with the rescue efforts, and he then was shown as being a victim of the bombing. Detractors claimed this guy was injured while helping with the rescue, and that was why he looked dead in the one pic. Yeah right. Injured my ass. Limp as a wet noodle on one hand, but still clutching his hat to his side so as not to lose it.

Pure propoganda BS. :o

They examples used draw a long bow. Not many photo journalists carry toys in their camera bag, they might pick one up and dust it off.

Not exactly a neutral site. Did you look at any of the other videos?

Similar balanced reporting on the Lebanon conflict.

The information is shocking! As if what the people (on both sides) are going through is not enough...

No news is good news. Personally, I think news is old hat. Same old same old year in and year out. Another war, another murder, another robbery, another rape, another political scandal . . . Computer.gif

If I were to watch reruns of the same movie over and over again I'd at least pick a good movie that made me laugh. Why people believe that all of the <deleted> in the world is the only thing worth reporting on is beyond me. I'm obviously not a fan of the news media and don't make it a habit to entertain their product. :o

News is political these days. Watch it/Read it, then make your own judgements.

To be honest, Brit, I don't much care to even formulate my own judgments on most of what they report on. Quite frankly, the greater balance of the news is neither here nor there in my life. I'm happy to put my focus on more that is personally meaningful and satisfying to me and those dear to me. I don't care to take daily excursions into a psychological wasteland.

Don't know what the big surprise is... photo journalists have been over dramatising their work for a long time, they're "artists" don't forget.

totster :o

Artists? Hmnnn!

True. I realised pretty quickly where they were coming from (which side they are on).

Hard to find an unbiased, neutral site, if there ever was one. Doesn't seem to matter what the disagreement is about, there only ever seems to be two views/sides/opinions:

"Ours, and the wrong one"
