BANGKOK: -- The Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Ministry is keeping its eye on LINE message exchanges - particularly those related to the monarchy and national security.

"We can monitor all the nearly 40 million LINE messages sent by people in Thailand each day," ICT Minister Pornchai Rujiprapa said yesterday.

He said about 33 million Thais use the LINE chat programme.

"If you receive LINE messages that offend the monarchy and threaten national security, you can lodge a complaint with police. We can trace where the messages originally come from," Pornchai said. He spoke at a press conference at Government House on a LINE Sticker campaign to promote 12 national core values.

Deputy Prime Minister Yongyuth Yutthawong, who was also present during the event, said the LINE sticker was in line with Prime Minister and National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) chief General Prayut Chan-ocha's policy.

They were based on His Majesty's guidelines. For example, the values encourage filial piety towards parents, guardians and teachers, morality, integrity, generosity, and sharing.

Pornchai said people could download the stickers for the 12 core values for free between December 30 and January 28. They expected three million to 3.5 million downloads, he said.

"The sticker production cost is Bt6.6 million. With VAT, the cost reaches Bt7.1 million," he said.

eh, how on this sweet earth does it cost $200k USD to have some DIGITAL pictures produced?? They should be monitoring where the budget for this is going not peoples Line chats.

Perhaps they should follow this a bit more closely themselves:

So can I.

Line tells you who sent the messages you receive.

Not that tricky really.

Not really, just a different style of poor advice.

If advice is even an appropriate word.

Good , I think everyone and everything should be monitored and if those people don't have the right NCPO spirit then they should be reported and re-educated for their own benefit. VIVA LA JUNTA !!!

I guess, the majority of the prime age group teenagers and young adults have sth more interesting, much cooler to talk about in LINE than such case sensitive related issues...

The cheap looking stickers cost how much to produce?????????????????????????????? blink.pngblink.pngblink.pngblink.png

Just under 600k per sticker, not a bad way to spend the tax payers money over New Year.

But you get them back for free :)

You were born, raised and educated in the west. In all likelihood, it is because of this you can afford to live here. If your health fails or your luck takes a turn for the worse, you can return and seek help, yet you never seem to have a good word for western people or society.

Your attitude is contemptible in my opinion.

The best New Year message I can convey to Thailand is to Grow up, your immaturity prose is showing , take a big breath and think why are all these messages that offend certain Thai senses are being written , the subjects that are being monitored I myself wouldn't waste my time in composing, Verdict: Police State.coffee1.gif

What does filial piety mean?

And who came up with those stickers. For 7 million I thought they would be really nice pictures that I could send to friends. I wouldn't send these to my enemy, even for free. Nothing special about them at all.

The government is spending so much time and effort in making sure that citizens cannot express their opinions on any subjects I can't help but wonder how much really important stuff is getting through

With VAT???

The government buys something, pays VAT and the revenue department collects the VAT again.

So on the big picture the government buys without VAT.

I would have made him the sticker for 1 Million Baht
