Can anyone recommend a good bar or restaurant which is relaxed with nice views? Preferably a higher floor bar or restaurant to go for some nice food and a drink with my wife.

Rooftop bars in CM: http://www.chiangmainews.com/ecmn/viewfa.php?id=3942

Not too far from the city there is also Palaad Tawanron with views over Chiang Mai: http://www.chiangmai-chiangrai.com/palaad-tawanron-restaurant.html

I’m not sure I would call Palaad Tawanron relaxed though, as it’s a busy thai restaurant with a band, but mostly in the singer/songwriter genre (when I was there).

There has to be better stuff than the places listed in this article. The actually have the gall to list Sahara? That building can't be more than three stories tall. Notice the pictures show you the restaurant and not the view from there.

Furama

Check it out. You can Google it. The easiest way I know of to get there is walk in the front door of Hillside 4 and just walk all the way through it and it will take you into the lobby of the Furama. I believe it is 17 floors. Been a while last time I was there it was a barbeque. Some body told me they had changed it. 360 degree view of the city.

I would venture out to Lake Huay Tung Tao. 30 small relaxing restaurants around the lake. I cant think of a better place to watch the sun go down around here.

A tad further afield; try Mon Jam its just off the Samoeng loop (Samoeng theres another lovely place to drink and eat)

Mon Jam you are on the top of a ridge, with valleys and plains both sides. spectacular views and lovely place to eat, drink to boot.

Not too easy to find somewhere in the city with views, ambience, tranquilty and water;other than a spa resort.

I was glad they had the menu at the bottom. Its a long way to go up to read a menu thats maybe more than you want to pay. It was for me.

Is it still a barbeque and what did you think of the view?

Really HTT ?? Perhaps lieing on a bamboo mat for somtam and sticky rice might be a little basic for a sophisticated dining experience ??

I mean sure I like the place, but its hardly what the OP indicated.

I enjoyed Panviman Resort. You will have to get out of town, but it should be easy enough to get "public" transportation. You will also have to get past the road construction near the intersection leading to Huay Tung Tao.

Personally, I think the ride to the resort is nice also.

In case this link gets removed (I have no attachment to this place) you can just search for Panviman Chiang Mai.

PS There are numerous resorts along the way

if you think positive; then 2 out of 3 aint bad

Nice views in all directions......check

drinks and alcohol..................check

good food; ok after my experiences with food at 3 different places there; I will concede on the food aspect.

But then again whats good for some is animal feed for others.
