I had this experience once at a very nice place I found by accident long time ago in Patong called "Song Roi Pee" cottage or something. We stay night. Upon checkout I was asked "You take lady?"

What do you mean "take"? . Suddenly the Thai smile dissipates to utter rudeness. " Guard man say you take lady, you pay 500 now !! ( Or whatever. What a ridiculous scam, the price of the room is the same regardless number of persons staying, right?) I protested that I did not "take" any ladies, but the clerk did not believe me, so I went and got the GF I checked in with who was waiting outside with our bags. "Akiko", they are saying I took a prostitute to our room last night and now we have to pay a extortionate surcharge. I thought it was amusing. This one did not think so. We did not have to pay of course but there was no apology as I caused a loss of face. I would handle it differently now if in the same situation.

Another hilarious story from ( a different Japanese, lady flight attendant) BKK whilst staying at the Zenith hotel. Denied entrance by a doorman whilst staying as a registered guest and attempting to return from dinner with two Farang pilots "Lady no can take". This one has a real sense of humor, however. You could not believe the bowing and groveling that ensued when the duty manager was summoned.

Mental midgets who assume any asian woman with western man is a cheap slapper.

OP, ask the hotel if they charge a joiner fee.

Sure the joiner fee system has led to embarrassing situations, like the night porter demanding a joiner fee from a customer coming with his Thai wife he checked in with. The system is also unjust, you pay for a twin room, so what business do they have asking extra money if half of the couple is not a steady fixture?

"Sure the joiner fee system has led to embarrassing situations, like the night porter demanding a joiner fee from a customer" - this can become even more embarrassing when you have already checked the hotel doesn't charge a joiner fee, and the the night porter tries to put one over you. biggrin.png
