I was chatting with a lady in Hua Hin yesterday. She's originally from the back end of Udon. She wasn't a stunner by any means but she was attractive and she was about 34. She was very pleasant and easy to chat with and we got on very well. She was brutally honest with what she expects from her work. She told me her "Angel" (some sort of shamen or local witch doctor) told her that this year she would be very lucky and meet a rich man to "take care" of her (and her family).

I asked what she meant by "take care". I nearly fell off my chair with her answers.

She wants a salary to live with somebody as their girlfriend of 30,000ThB per month. She wants the lucky guy to fork out 3-4 million baht for a house for her. She also wants a dowry payable to the mother of 1 million in the event that the guy wishes to marry her. She might even want a house built for mom and dad. After that, comes the car etc.

I was very surprised as didn't appear to be your usual hard case bar girl. She came across as the girl next door type.

How realistic are these expectations? Is there actually somebody who would willingly pay these amounts for a girlfriend/wife?

I know Hua Hin has a lot of wealthy guys but is this a bridge too far for her or not?

Looking forward to your comments as I was quite taken aback by this. Are you?

She's deluded, but many of them are. I mil sin sot for a <snip> of 34, hilarious, but sad really. You should have asked her what she is offering in return!

Hua Hin has a lot of people that would like you to think they are wealthy.

Three Thai ladies I know, both married foreigners.

One was a bar girl in Phuket, guy bought two houses for her (age 42 now, still looks good, he's about 67).

One was a divorced housewife, guy gave her 10Mbht and all his pension every month, (age 45 now and plain, he's about 70).

One seems respectable, but cheats, guy bought her 3 houses, and a business worth about 10Mbht (age 40, still looks good, he's 66 and not well at all)

All been with their women 5-10 years.

Plenty of elderly foreigners throwing their life savings and pensions at younger Thai women.

This is a sad commentary on the state of old men.

we need a photo really of the expectant lottery winner. Come to think of it somebody the mrs knew at our old condo grabbed an idiot from the Uk on the internet and within two months and one visit handed over 10 mil baht, She was not good looking and earned a decent wage at a famous hospital. Horrible woman, had a German boyfriend living with her before and never stopped slagging him off as stingy to anyone that would listen, even to the security men, he paid for everything though. Some of these greedy cows make me sick and of course when their stories go around it tends to make expectations higher all round and to make other wife's feel short changed and envious.

Sure, I know many guys who have paid this -- some to several Thai wives.

Even after two or even three divorces in Thaialand they say it's still cheaper than their divorce from wife no. 1 in their home country.

Funny, but I was just reading another thread where a guy refused to pay for his GF's airfare to Europe. And here, we're talking millions in "take care" fees.

Seriously, OP, the girl was just giving you her dream list. She's passed the "falling in love" phase and is being practical. And if she can get it, good on her. Is it possible? Of course. People still fall for the Nigerian scam, why not this. And when you think about it, if these older guys want to spend their remaining years and their last dollars on a younger woman, why not? Once he's gone, he can't take the money with him. Better than his relatives back home inheriting the money.

It is absolutely doable, all of us know at least a handful of guys who have handed over this amount of cash to their younger Thai girlfriends, even got married to them.

I know of a swiss guy who never ever has been in her village, and pays the 39 year old woman 35,000 THB per month. All she has to do is a few weeks of escort service for him in Bangers during his work visits.

I bet if the OP's bargirl's expectations are being met somewhere about in the half of that, it will stil be a lottery win. Don't forget they start to bargain at double the price tag they expect in the end.

Many would be willing to build a house for her and themselves, even buy a car both can use, however paying dowry for a Thai woman who in most cases already has children and has worked through a few men, the answer will be a strict No ! At a marriage ceremony I would lend the money only for the show, to be given back to me after the guests have gone home.

Seems like her cup is half full and not half empty.

Some of you seem incredulous. I live in Hua Hin, and I can tell you that plenty have done as well as she expects and better. Of course plenty have left town empty handed - but she wouldn't be the first to get that - and more. Not by a longshot.

I first met one like that from Lampang after I came to Chiang Mai. She was a 40 yrs old a teacher and the mother of 3 teenage girls. She used to bike over and spend the weekend. Best header I ever had. She needed 20,000 bahts a month to educate her daughters. I told her to keep looking but her chances were not good.
