Just got a set top box with the 690 baht voucher, it's an AJ DVB-93+.

I can see the menus and everything with the HDMI cable connected to the TV. However when I try to scan for channels it finds nothing.

There is no signal on any frequncy or channel, I tried different settings, even bought a new indoor-digital-antenna, nothing. Autoscan:

failed, failed, failed. Manual scan: there is no signal.

I think the device is faulty, any other ideas?

Where are you located. What is the distance to the transmission tower? Are there large obstacles between you the the tower? Do you have nearby neighbors who CAN get reception?

You've got the box did you pay for service?

No payment for DVB-T. Many free channels (mostly Thai though).

DVB-T is the replacement for analog terrestrial TV.

Introduced in 2014 and slowly spreading over the country.

Analog TV will be switched off in the long run.

No ideas about the problems honestly.

I am afraid you have to take it to the shop and let them demonstrate that it works (or not).

Just plugged mine in using HDMI, added an antenna

and it just worked all the channels were there,no need

to scan for them, you must have a duff box, take it back

to the shop,

Village in Nakhon Sawan. Don't know the distance to the tower or obstacles. The neighbours don't have the set top boxes yet. I do know that normal TV reception is not strong so that may be of influence.

Well it is possable that it is a bad box your location matters too. There are simple not that many towers for the dtb-tv. As said 'slowly rolling out'.

If you have a smart phone get the app that locates the towers or have someone show you their result. It will point the direaction and dist. to the nearest tower from where you are. The range could mean you need a better antenna or maybe your out of range like us and many others across the country as yet another paper tiger system has been turned lose in the hub of hype.

I am sure like internet cable they said would be here 16 years ago this signal will never be seen around here ever - ether.

I will do that, they can hook it up in the shop to make shure it works/is broken.

Hmm, I checked the signal with a smartphone - there is no signal on any channel... I guess I am in a "out of range" area. Will go to the shop just to make sure about this.

Is there maybe a website that show DVB coverage? I googled but nada...

You will definitely need an outside aerial .I could not get a reception with an indoor one here in Sansai ,Chiang Mai .Today i paid B355 for a small outdoor aerial ,and attached it to the soffit board on my roof .I pointed it in the same direction (towards Doi Suthape mountain ) as other aerials in my Moobaan .

I am getting 7 or 8 Channels and very clear reception .Though Channel 3 (with the Soaps ) which my wife and Daughter watches ,does not seem to be on it ?

If you are only getting 7 or 8 channels, your aerial is either too small or pointing the wrong way.

I have it working now! The local TV guy came and fixed a bigger indoor antenna and after some fiddling with it we now have +- 30 channels of crystal-clear digital TV. However sometimes the image freezes for a second or so, never mind I don't watch Thai TV and the family is very happy with it so OK.

I think if we would buy a big outdoor antenna we would have even better reception and no freezes.

Thanks for all the help people!

I think you are pointing the wrong way by about 180 degrees. We are in Tasala, near Big C Don Chan, and our aerial point north east(ish), ie away from Doi Suthep, and we get 30 channels, inc Channel 3...

There are apps that provide crowd-sourced info for "cell tower" signals. But digital TV transmissions/towers operate on completely different frequencies/transmission methods. Apples and oranges.

Not the same thing - this is a location app made for dtb-tv - the current tower locations and power level of those are known and your location is used to provide dist/range and direction information from where you are. If you are out of passable range it turns red and tells you.

Sounds handy, do you have a link for the app??

I hope its better than several of the "crowd-sourced cell tower locator apps" I tried about a year ago when getting interested in the subject for a while. But what I soon found out is it did not list many of the towers around my Bangkok area....like two within eyesight...but maybe those towers were not towers for my DTAC service. The cell tower apps solely depended on folks using the apps/scanning their local area and then allowing info collected by the app to be sent home to build up a data base combined with some other public/company databases on cell tower location. It was probably more accurate for areas like the U.S., Europe, etc., where databases available from the companies and govt agencies provided better tower location info...but I doubt Thailand has reached that point yet in available info.

Yes thanks....the app is from the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC). It's all in Thai but a person can figure it out with some playing around.

It's basically a duplicate of their website at http://dtvservicearea.nbtc.go.th/webpeople/

Maybe easier to view on a computer screen/at the website. Basically a person can first click the blue and white icon on the top right hand of the screen, then click the Thailand map which marks your location, and then direction of transmitter and other info will be displayed plus some other info...or it will say something along the lines of no channels at this time/for future expansion, but at least you'll know where the transmitter/antenna will be....don't be surprised if it's in same direction that analog antennas are currently pointed. Other info on the web site but Google Translate is definitely your friend at this website unless you can read Thai.

For me in my location in western Bangkok it basically pointed me to where all the current analog system antenna's are pointed--to central Bangkok. I expect current analog transmitters/antenna are just being retro fitted to also broadcast digital.
