I suppose It would be better for Robinson to have a solid game & for Owen to have a run out against Estonia rather than go in v Russia & on a dodgy plastic surface

Yeah i agree. Although i'm very worried about Robinson's current form. The thing is, who else would we put in?

England Vs Estonia preview from skysports:-

England face Estonia at Wembley on Saturday in Euro 2008 qualifying action and three points are a must for manager Steve McClaren.

The England boss will be desperate for a repeat performance to those which stylishly swept aside Israel and Russia back in September.

However, Estonia will not be in a generous mood and - in what will be one of the biggest games in the country's history - they will be keen to steal the show.

It has been suggested that England would be foolish to stray too far from the first XI which hit three past Israel and Russia respectively, but part of McClaren's hand has been forced upon him.

Emile Heskey (foot), so impressive on his return to the international scene, and captain John Terry (knee) are injured and the pair will both miss out.

Sol Campbell, who last played for his country against Sweden in World Cup 2006, is likely to earn his own recall in place of Terry.

Meanwhile, Wayne Rooney has recovered from a fractured metatarsal - the very injury which has felled Heskey - and is expected to take the Wigan striker's place alongside Michael Owen.

David Beckham remains sidelined and, with calamitous goalkeeper Paul Robinson receiving McClaren's unequivocal backing, the only selection headache exists in central midfield.

McClaren must decide between Gareth Barry, who more than showed his capabilities in the last international double-header, and the now fully fit Frank Lampard.

Lampard's goals from midfield have often handed England a get out of jail free card but his problems complementing Steven Gerrard contrast starkly with the way Barry dovetailed so effectively with the Liverpool skipper and there lies McClaren's conundrum.

Estonia have spoken of a desire to frustrate England and coach Viggo Jensen is likely to flood the midfield in order to stifle his opponents.

Star striker Andreas Oper has missed out on the trip to London as he is sidelined for two months with a hamstring problem.

Fellow forward Vlaimir Voskoboinikov is also missing through injury to leave Estonia looking a little shy of fire-power.

However, Watford goalkeeper Mart Poom - who has been struggling with a back injury - is in a determined mood ahead of the fixture and he has declared he is prepared to play through the pain barrier as his team-mates seek a dramatic upset

Yep, pretty easy going so far. Although can't say that England have been that impressive. Nevermind, will take the three points. Wednesdays game is going to be a bigger test out in Russia on an artificial pitch.

Have to get ready to cheer on the other England team later :o

Hey Mr Toad or Anyone

What's the story behind Frank Lampard and the Booing,

he's getting a lot of stick of late, can't work out why ?

Certainly wasn't a good display last night,

my old sports master (years ago - so maybe I'm out of date) he used to say

"RULE 1 Play as A Team.

A lucky 3 points last night, and sad for Estonia who I thought battled and defended well.

Ken,

Have to say I agree with what you were saying. I really didn't think England played that well, and it was lucky that the opposition were so limited. They will really need to raise their performance on Wednesday when they play on the astro in front of 85,000 screamimg Russians if they are to get something out of it. Don't think for one moment that Russia will be as awed or poor as they were in the previous match at Wembley.

In respect of Lampard he has become increasingly unpopular with the England fans due to his abject and heartless performances for England over the past 18 months. He's almost taking on the John Barnes pantomine villain role, where when he played for his club he was outstanding, but when he put on the three lions he looks like a clown.

Well, if they're that mediocre on grass I dread to think how they'll perform on a plastic pitch next Wednesday. :o

My first thoughts about the booing Lumpolard was that they're must have been lot's of West Ham there - which they're probably was. Or perhaps his unpopularity has spread to others supporters too ?

Perhaps I should start Frank Lampard thread as well as a John Terry one. :D

Still, "Swing Low, Sweet Chariot" and all that. :D

Personally i thought we did a good job. 3-0 by half time, job done and don't risk getting yourself injured.

Agreed.

Although us Blues are now spoiled by seeing extremely entertaining football every week, eh Mr BoJ :o

Match preview from skysports:-

Russia v England

Make or break time for Russia and England

England can clinch a place in the finals of Euro 2008 if they secure three points against Russia on Wednesday, in a game which can be seen live on Sky Sports 1 from 3.30 pm.

Manager Steve McClaren has steered England to five consecutive 3-0 successes in qualifying Group E and another maximum point haul against Russia in Moscow would see supporters begin the search for affordable accommodation in Austria and Switzerland next summer.

Russia, though, are in desperate need of the points as they bid to keep their own qualification hopes alive and they are unlikely to roll over in the style of their 3-0 defeat in September's Wembley meeting between the two sides.

Much has been made of the Luzhniki Stadium's plastic pitch which will host the crucial clash, but McClaren remains his confident self and is focused on his team.

McClaren persistently pushes positive thinking, but he will have been rocked by the likely injury enforced absence of his captain John Terry and he will definitely be without Ashley Cole.

Terry had been passed fit to play against Russia, having missed the Estonia game, but the defender's troublesome knee locked in training on Tuesday and he is rated as a major doubt with Sol Campbell again ready to deputise.

Cole damaged his ankle against Estonia following a defensive mix up with Joleon Lescott, who could be in line to replace the absent Chelsea full-back.

Lescott, who played out the majority of the second-half against Estonia at left-back following Cole's early exit, could be in line to start his first game for his country but McClaren must decide between the Everton defender, his experienced club colleague Phil Neville or Reading's Nicky Shorey.

Frank Lampard is expected to be forced to settle for a place on the bench once again as Steven Gerrard and Gareth Barry continue to form a formidable central midfield partnership, while Michael Owen and Wayne Rooney should maintain an attacking spearhead.

Meanwhile, Russia manager Guus Hiddink is determined to secure the three points for his side.

Hiddink recently agreed a new contract to keep him in control of the Russian reins until the 2010 World Cup, but the Dutchman knows anything less than a win would provide him with an uphill task in securing a finals appearance before that tournament.

Russia will be missing first choice winger Vladimir Bystrov and fellow midfielder Ivan Saenko, but they have no other major concerns as they plot a frosty reception for England
