In the South, direction signs would give data in English and Jawi, while those in regions near Cambodia would bear English and Cambodian messages, he said.

Installing such signs will be done in the next five years and the Bt264 million budget is part of the department's Bt62 billion budget for road construction and repair in the same period, Mr Daroon said. (MCOT online news)

Fiscal Policy Office urges govt to invest more

BANGKOK, 14 January 2015 (NNT) - The Fiscal Policy Office has estimated that the government’s budget disbursement this year will be 50% of its 90 billion baht target and suggested the government continue to play an active role in investing.

Director of the Fiscal Policy Office Kritsada Chinawicharana said the office was preparing measures in case the economy did not grow as much as expected. The measures were being developed in line with the government’s current budget disbursement, the export sector, domestic consumption and investment in the country. They were four main forces driving the Thai economy at the moment, said the director.

The Fiscal Policy Office found that the government would likely achieve 50% of its budget disbursement target. It is therefore monitoring how each government unit spends its budget.

As for the export sector, the office is finding out who are in trouble and need help from the government. It is also inspecting grassroots’ consumption while urging the government to take the lead in investment so that the private sector feels more confident and follows suit.

Chilly weather pushes down egg prices in Khon Kaen

KHON KAEN, 14 January 2015 (NNT) – Chilly weather has posed a big challenge for egg sellers in Khon Kaen who are facing an egg price drop due to an oversupply.

Although the sharp drop in temperature has reportedly caused difficulty to a large number of people in the Northeast, it has proven conducive to the egg laying of both ducks and chickens, which has led to an oversupply of eggs in Khon Kaen province. According to sellers, the prices of duck eggs and size 0 chicken eggs have dramatically dropped to 100 baht and 105 baht per pack respectively.

The excessive output, which is pushing egg prices down, has forced some operators to get rid of some of their birds to regulate the number of eggs in accordance with the market demand.

To cope with falling egg prices, some sellers have turned to food processing to boost their incomes. One of them disclosed that sales of ready-to-eat boiled eggs had become his major source of income, adding that he supplied 3,000-5,000 boiled eggs to restaurants, food outlets, and school cafeterias per day.
