Samsung? There are dozens of models. I-Phone? Been told to save money and get the 5S. Contract or top-up? New Chinese 3 g models at 6000b? No clue what I ought to be buying. However, it needs to be usable in Malaysia and in UK/Spain on infrequent visits.

I already run Macs at home plus an IPad (non-wifi)

I don't want to spend 30,000 on the new IPhone

I dont need a powerful camera, and I don't play songs on my phone.

Could anyone help this complete newbie? Bang for Buck? Good offers? Good reception?

If you go to Malaysia best to get one of these. I think best value phone on the market with a great 13 mp camera. http://www.mi.com/my/note/ IM me if you want any more info. Beware of copies, only buy from MI site. Many poor quality copies around. My battery last all day with a lot of use.

Redmi NoteCore MTK 6592 1.7GHz processor

5.5" HD IPS display
3,100 mAh lithium-polymer battery
13MP rear facing camera | 5MP front facing camera

MTK 8-core processor available at 1.7GHz, 78% higher processing performance than Quad-core MT6589T.
Cortex-A7 architecture individually allocates tasks to each core, reducing power usage and heat.
Games, webpages, and apps, look stunning and run smoothly.

Well, I bought a Samsung A5 new model 12,900. It seems to be very good. I have managed to import somepictures from the Mac...but I can't get the same LINE app to sync across the 3 platforms.

The best and biggest I Phone six was 33.000b. I wont pay that.

Does anybody know if the Samsung will work in Europe (3g etc?)

Yep it will work on 3g . Did you get the LTE version (4g) I would hope it is at 13k baht.

Check the box, on the label it should say what frequency's it uses. Maybe post a picture.

These are the full details of the A5. Under Network click on the expand button to see the supported frequencies. http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_a5-6761.php

This site shows the world GSM band coverage - http://www.worldtimezone.com/gsm.html

Tywais.. that link doesn't show the LTE bands

Usually I use this site also but didn't find it right away. It shows FDD-LTE and the bands but not clear about specific frequencies for the Asian version. - http://www.phonearena.com/phones/compare/Samsung-Galaxy-A5,Samsung-Galaxy-S5-LTE-A/phones/8944,8730?ft=2

But the OP indicated at least the 3G is of interest to him. "Does anybody know if the Samsung will work in Europe (3g etc?)"

And I answered yes.

But I was interested if for 12,999b you got LTE. If not it's a tad expensive!
