Princess Maha Chakri is on visits to Germany and Singapore

BANGKOK, 15 January 2015 (NNT) - Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn will visit the Federal Republic of Germany during 14-17 January 2015 and the Republic of Singapore on 18 January.


The Bureau of the Royal Household said in an announcement issued last night that while in Germany, Her Royal Highness will visit the 80th International Green Week being held in Berlin and preside over the opening ceremony of the Thai booth at the fair. Green Week is an important international trade fair for the food, agriculture and gardening industry.

The announcement said that this year’s fair also sees the participation of the Royal Project Foundation, the Chaipattana Foundation, the Doi Tung Development Foundation, Phu Fa Shop, the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives as well as a number of Thai restaurants. Besides, Her Royal Highness will observe the operations of BMW Company in Berlin and archive systems of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Germany and the Federal Archive Commission of the Ministry of Intelligence of the former Democratic Republic of Germany.

While in Singapore, Her Royal Highness will attend the opening ceremony of the Global Youth Scientists Summit 2015 at Nanyang Technological University. The Princess will also grant an audience to Mr. K. Shanmugam, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister of Law of Singapore, who will host a luncheon for the Princess.

The Royal Household Bureau announcement said Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn boarded a Thai Airways International flight slightly before midnight last night for the trips to Germany and Singapore and will return to Thailand on Sunday, 18 January 2015.

10 dead when Texas prison bus skids off highway, hits train

Divers examine AirAsia jet fuselage, search for bodies

Five wounded in motorcycle bomb attack in Narathiwat

NARATHIWAT: -- he assistant district chief of Narathiwat’s Janae district narrowly escaped death but his four bodyguards and one bystander were injured in a motorcycle bomb attack on Wednesday.

Militants detonated with a cellphone a parked motorcycle rigged with about 20 kgs of explosives as a pickup truck in which MrAtthapolSonsakul, assistant district chief of Janae district, and four defence volunteers were travelling passed through a road in Ban Nam Won, Tambon Chang Puek.

The powerful explosion damaged the left door of the truck and injured the four volunteers and a villager who happened to be at the scene. The injured were later rushed to the district hospital.

Police suspected that the militants intended to kill the assistant district chief.

Hat Yai join the national Teachers’ Day

SONGKHLA, 15 Jan 2015 (NNT) - The Municipality of Hat Yai in Songkhla Province is celebrating the national Teachers’ Day, organizing an alms giving ceremony to monks this morning.


The religious event was held at 6.30 am this morning at the conference room in the Municipality office. Teachers’ Day is observed to honor teachers for their contributions to the nation’s education system.

The event was first organized on January 16th, 1957 with objectives of showing appreciation from students and the public for teachers’ hard works in molding and shaping the next generation.

At present the event usually consists of 3 types of activities; religious ceremony in the morning, followed by a ritual for student to show their appreciation to teachers, and an activity to bond relationship between teachers and students such as sports or other entertaining activities.

AirAsia lauds Basarnas' performance for retrieving cockpit voice recorder

Nakhon Pathom invites all to visit the 9th annual orchid fair

NAKHON PATHOM, 15 Jan 2015 (NNT) – Nakhon Pathom Province is inviting all to visit the 9th annual orchid fair at Suvarnabhumi Orchids Garden in Kamphaengsaen District from 9AM to 6PM from now to Sunday.


The fair represents cooperative efforts among several units including the Department of Agricultural Extension, the Department of Agriculture, the Association of Rhynchostylis Orchid planters, the Royal Horticultural Society of Thailand, the Horticultural Society of Thailand, various orchid related organizations nationwide and Bangkok Airways.

Orchid is one of the province’s economic crops involving more than 500 operators farming the beautiful flowers in more than 7,000 rai of farmland. Nakhon Pathom has become one of the biggest orchid producers in Thailand, generating 500 million baht of income to the province each year.

Nakhon Pathom’s Orchid Fair aims at marketing the exquisite plant domestically and internationally, while providing a space for orchid farmers to showcase their hard work results as well as to exchange ideas and experiences among fellow orchid planters.

The fair also hosts contests for different kinds of orchid, the organizers said, adding that visitors will be able to enjoy magnificent sights of local and foreign species of orchids. A wide range of orchids and gardening tools will also be available for sale at affordable prices.

Thailand snatches 2 golds from the 16th World Pencak Silat Championship in Phuket

PHUKET, 15 Jan 2015 (NNT) – Thai athletes yesterday snatched 2 golds from the 16th World Pencak Silat Championship 2015, currently being held in Phuket. The Pencak Silat Association of Thailand is confident Thai athletes will be able to claim at least three more golds in Thailand’s next match tomorrow.


There were 12 golds up for grasp in the competition yesterday. The 2 golds Thailand was able to secure were from Class A Female by Ms. Naphaporn Booncheun, after defeating Indonesia’s Sri Rahayu. The other gold was from Class D Male by Pornthep Poonkaew after he took down his Malaysian opponent.

Pornthep said that he was very pleased with his result, crediting his victory to all Thais especially Phuket locals, who came to give moral support, and his extensive trainings.

Final matches are scheduled for tomorrow. Thailand will compete in 3 categories as follows; Class B Male where Thailand’s Nantachai Khansakorm will brawl Indonesia’s Aprin Ardianto, while Supharas Kiewkeaw will fight Malaysia’s Siri Rahnah Binti Mohamadnas in Class E Female. Finally, Surasak Deklee would take on Indonesia’s Juanda Samsul Bahar in Class H Male.
