Police hunt shooter of dog at Imperial World Lardprao

BANGKOK: -- The Thai Animal Guardians Association yesterday called for police action after a teenage car driver shot dead a stray dog in front of the Imperial World Ladprao department store in Bangkok, in defiance of the law.

The call came after a video footage of the shooting Tuesday night went viral on the social network strongly condemned the shooting and the defiant driver who fired shots in the busy area where several passers-by witnessed.

The CCTV footage of the department store showed a group of four stray dogs barked at a passing car near Imperial World Lardprao.

The gesture somehow prompted the driver, said to be teenager, to stop the car, step out and fired two shots at an 8 year-old female stray dog nicknamed “Sue Bue,” then drove away on the night of January 13.

The footage was posted on the social network with all Netizens condemning the inhumane shooting and called for investigation to bring the man to trial, for killing the dog and firing shots in public places in defiance of law.

Following the incident, representatives from the Thai Animal Guardians Association yesterday handed over the CCTV footage to police officers at Choke Chai police station and urged the police to indentify and prosecute the suspect under the newly-enacted animal welfare act.

Under the law, those found guilty of animal cruelty face up to two years in prison and a 40,000 baht fine, they said.

Meanwhile, a vendor at the place said she often fed stray dogs in this area and the dogs here have never shown signs of aggression and never bitten passers-by.

She said a group of teenagers were probably out clubbing and tried to hit-and-run stray dogs but they barked.

A driver then stepped out of the car and shot Sue Bue. Another bystander then took Sue Bue, badly wounded, to an animal hospital for treatment.

Sue Bue later died the next morning at the hospital.

According to CCTV footage, the car is believed to be a Chevrolet but the police have yet to identify its plate number.

Police said they are looking into other CCTV cameras in the area to look for the suspect.

Roger Lohanan, Director of Association for protection of Animals Thailand, has meanwhile called on the officers to quickly apprehend the suspect because the incident is a serious instance for animal cruelty.

Every society has these antisocial scumbags. They start with animals and then move up the food chain. Sounds like a perfect candidate for technical college and shooting students from rival colleges. However, I'm not sure that's a step UP from shooting dogs.whistling.gif

Saddens me. There is a stray-dog problem here, and I have faced some aggressive strays, usually they just bark but I think some would bite. When I was in the USA I bought an ultrasonic dog repeller, because it worries me enough, not sure it will work here over the din of traffic and such... And a lot of other dogs just look at me (the other day I felt something cold touch my hand and looking around it was a large black dog but he was just looking at me, the strays outside Central usually just glance at me as I pass... I love dogs and actions like this unless a stray has attacked someone aren't the solution. I hope they catch the shooter.

Why is animal cruelty the center of this story? It should be the discharging of a firearm in a public place, regardless of whether a dog was shot or not. Thailand really needs to get it's priorities straight. The next time this brain dead moron fires a gun it might be into some other person. This guy is DANGEROUS and a public menace. Find him and lock him up ASAP.

Thailand also has a stray dog and cat problem that needs to be addressed. The longer they wait to address this problem, the worse the problem will become. I suppose they will wait for a pack of dogs to attack some child or tourist before even considering action.

I also deplore the killing of an innocent animal by this other 'animal' however I also have to find fault with the society that allows people to let their dogs roam free without caring about their welfare. I know this is a cultural thing but the lives of some of these dogs I have seen are probably far worse a fate than the fate of this poor animal that was shot. Strange that we never hear a complaint from the 'Animal Guardians' about the piss poor treatment of dogs in every single city, town and village in the undeveloped country.

Maybe they are people who live in the area and are kept awake at night by them.

The so called animal lovers on the net would soon complain if it was them.

Animal lovers here ? How many Thais have you seen walking their dogs instead of just locking them up 24 hours a day ? I've seen 4 people walk their dogs in 10 years.

And why does the title say 'police hunt' when the article says they are urging police to act ? Another rubbish piece of journalism.

A teenager fires a gun in a public plave and kills dog, maybe next time he kills a person

The simple solution is shhot him before he causes more grief

Then force parents to PAY for the bullet

Solution a bit harse whistling.gif maybe

But that will be 1 less toerag with a gun

Another kid, another gun, another day.

Move along nothing to see here.

You might think that this comment makes you look smart but it does just the opposite. There is something to "see" here. Any kid (or adult) who carries and uses a gun illegally (anywhere) should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. As well as animal cruelty, an innocent bystander could have been hurt here. Life is too important to trivialize with inane comments like yours.

You been on TV this long and you are surprised? Don't worry there are plenty of impotent losers on here constantly threading about their hate for soi dogs and strays in Thailand and the various methods they would employ to injure, maim, kill or poison these dogs so by your logic the many, many posters on here that want to wage war on soi dogs are just antisocial scumbags waiting to move up the food chainwhistling.gif Actually I agree with you 100%clap2.gif

Another rubbish post. Most of the soi dog haters on here came long after the dogs did. They move into an area where the dogs are and then complain because the dogs do what they do. If ya got the balls or the guts take your vitriolic anger out on those that deserve it. The owners not the dogs. Then again you weak wanna-be's would much rather take out your anger on an animal that couldn't strike back than the actual person responsible. Plonker

Sarcasm is often called the lowest form of wit. I find it to be the exact opposite.

clap2.gif great point ! the story is about a dog being shot not the fact that a young idiot with a firearm, more than likely unlicensed, had no worries about discharging it in a public place. Thainess ?

Hope they catch that sicko soon.

If the General wants to get people onside, then actually instigating a draconian crackdown on illegal firearm use, including pursuing offenders from a privileged background, would gain many plaudits.

Here we go TAT: 'The hub of idiots with guns!' It starts and ends with the people.

When people dies or get killed specially foreigners I don't see any interested group demanding police action.

Must agree easy access to gun can be very dangerous

Would have been nice to see the police being so keen to go after those who were shooting at protesters not so long back, possibly what is needed is a Peoples Guardians Association to complain to the police.

Dogs whether stray or just allowed to roam are nothing but a pest and a dangerous pest at that and the ones that would bite deserve shooting.

However saying that there is no excuse for getting out of a car and shooting at anything in a crowed place, catch the twirp and give him some time behind bars.

This was the CCTV footage of the incident on the news:

another interpretation; the shooter has serious issues and shooting teens similar to him would not represent a step up but a step down. in other words placing the dog on a higher pedestal than him or his cohorts.

in the world 1 person dies every 10 minutes from rabies. in thailand quite a few die from dog bite transmitted rabies. is there an agency that catches vicious street dogs and evaluates them?

Sue Bue?

What a lovely nickname.

RIP little doggie.

That kid is lucky the dogs name is not Tang Dong, or he might be on death row.

Message to soi dogs. Never take only your teeth to a gun fight. Thai shooters have a very low tolerance for people or animals. Stay well clear of them.

I wonder how many injuries have been caused by dogs charging at pedestrian and vehicles.

Ive seen a car swerve out of the way of a dog and hitting a parked car...

My kids cant ride their bikes around, without me following them with a stick to fend of dogs....

Perhaps some people are getting fed up with these soi dogs... Its an issue thats not being addressed and instead left to continue uncontrolled

What the authorities should be doing is coming to terms that there is a major stray and feral dog problem in Thailand, educating the public on how to care and control their dogs and introducing dog neutering programmes. Down my way it is not possible to walk about on foot at night because of the dangers of being attacked by soi dogs, which is quite common in many areas.

About time all the Soi dogs were rounded - up and either eradicated or taken in by the self-proclaimed part-time as long as it doesn't affect me dog lovers to be taken care of.

Then we can round up all the homeless people and the beggers. Those buggers bother me far worse than the dogs do.

Fairs fair.

Never been bothered or threatened by a rabid homeless person or a beggar - but can't say the same for soi dogs.
