January 24, 201511 yr Does anybody know where it is possible to buy mature trees for transplanting somewhere around Mae Hia, Hangdong - generally south of town? Also, does any kind person more clued in on gardens than me know if it is possible to transplant reasonably mature frangipani and ornamental palms? Many thanks - Dru
January 24, 201511 yr Frangipani trees can transplant easily, even cutting off large branches and planting them ~30cm in good soil will see them take root. Most palms are easy too. On the 121 coming from Hang Dong Rd [samoeng Intersection] theres a big tree outlet on left about 3 or 4km's along toward Ping River bridge. It's almost opposite the new LPG station.
January 24, 201511 yr Not mae hia but outer ring rd, Near the 1317 junction has large mature trees cut back for transplant.

January 24, 201511 yr Agree with Rob, most palms transplant easily. One that does not is Bismarkia, Thais call it Ton faa (blue tree ??). It has large grey blue fan leaves and usually dies about 3 months after attempted transplant.
January 26, 201511 yr If you want to transplant palms ,make sure the root-ball is adequate in size. Particularly in Thailand they dig as small as possible because that equates to less work digging and transporting the palm or tree then they have to stick those silly ugly stick contraptions around them to support the palm or tree upright . If the job is done properly you don't need them . They will also cause problems later by using supports.
