BANGKOK — Family members of victims killed in the 2010 crackdown on Redshirt demonstrators have submitted a letter of protest to Thailand’s anti-graft agency for failing to take legal action against those responsible for the military operation.

In August 2014, the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) was granted jurisdiction over legal charges filed against former Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva and his deputy Suthep Thaugsuban for authorizing the crackdown, which led to more than 90 fatalities, mostly civilians.

However, the NACC has yet to formally take up the case in the court. Abhisit and Suthep were originally charged with murder by the Division of Special Investigation (DSI) in 2010, but the Criminal Court threw out the case in August on the grounds that the former leaders should be charged with "abuse of power" by the NACC instead.

Nattapat Akhart, the younger brother of a volunteer medic shot dead by soldiers in the crackdown, submitted a letter of protest to the NACC today on behalf of families of other victims.

Speaking to reporters, he said that it's been almost five years since the crackdown, yet there has been no progress on the case. He added that he has never been contacted by the NACC to provide any evidence.

They will wait a long time for that. The military killed students, in 1976. Nobody was charged. Justice is a distant bell. Rarely heard in Thailand

Isn't there a saying about pushing shit somewhere? They may as well go & ask for compensation from the rabid army sniper caught in a video shooting at them even after his commander had shouted for him to stop. Or how about from fake Phra Suthep who said they 'ran into the bullets'?

As far as I remember the Criminal Court threw out the "premeditated murder' case and suggested that if the DSI and OAG thought they had reason to believe something was wrong they should follow the path with NACC investigation and recommendation and continue if applicable with a case at the Supreme Court for political office holders.

Similar to how the Ms. Yingluck RPPS case was handled.

BTW former Dept. PM Yongyut had those who accepted 6 or 7 million Baht 'compensation' cheques sign a document not the sue the government (which was later more detailed in 'not sue the Yingluck government'). The mother of the slain nurse signed after that explanation.

None of the 'request for justice' have anything to do with politics of course. At least the relatives of the slain were against the 'blanket amnesty bill'.

PS if the document with the 'don't sue us' clause is legally valid, does that mean that a successor government has no legal requirement to accept former government's obligations? A bit strange that.

Its a shame no one wants to actually state that the red shirts started the shootings/killings but the ptp made sure that investigation was put on hold in their efforts to chase abhisit for political gain and hopefully thaksins return. All the reds should have been arrested for inciting terrorism along with all the ptp mp's that called on them to do it but we will not see that. They are yet to prove the army actually did it, all they are saying is that it was done with war weapons as used by the army but they were also being used by the reds and the men in black. Ballistics could prove exactly which weapons fired the kill shots but that also will never happen, the reds and their supporters instead rely entirely of the fantasies they make up when they could well be the ones that did the actual shooting, we will probably never know , this is what happens here, the truth is never chased or told, instead money talks and the rich simply walk away.

Now don't be too hasty there young man.

I'm regularly and reliably informed that the International Criminal Court is still deliberating on the application filed for the UDD and by their legal representatives Amsterdam & Perrof LPP. That would be the application to investigate the situation of the Kingdom of Thailand with regard to the commission of crimes against humanity.

Application submitted 2011-01-31, so we could hardly expect the ICC to have finished to deliberate on whether or not to accept the case, now could we ?

Put bluntly, not a hope in hell.

What hope is there for Thailand, when the military kills more of their own people than enemies, in the name of peace..........over the past decades....it's a very sad state........

I demand compensation from the Red Shi®ts. Because of their demonstrations I could not go to work.

Like that was important in the big scheme of thingsrolleyes.gif

IMHO the NACC should look at recovering the "compensation" paid by Yingluk to the families of these mercenary insurgents. Just another example of paying her family's debts with Other Peoples' Money.
