Even many respectable brands do not offer the protection claimed : eg spf50, when independently tested.

Up to you, but I wouldnt buy cheap suncream if my purpose was to protect against skin cancer.

Check out via google, but I am happy to pay a little more to get spf50-as advised by my derrmo- after skin cancer op!!

Seems since the Big Pharma "avoid the sun" theory many people are now vitamin D deficient. This has been related to a whole bunch of increases in other profitable diseases.

Avoiding actual sunburn is important but avoiding the sun rays altogether is not healthy. Most sunscreens are actually very toxic and don't even block the damaging UVs so best avoided, something natural and zinc based better.

When I think of "suntan lotion" as the OP states, I think of an oil or cream that will induce tanning, rather than preventing it. You remember the Coppertone tan, I'm sure.

I don't think I've ever seen any lotion to enhance one's tan here. In Thailand having white skin is by far preferred, not because Thais want to be Caucasian, or are necessarily concerned about skin cancer. No, it's because they want to give the appearance of wealth, since the wealthy can stay indoors (and not be tanned). Those who have darker skin are the laborers and farmers, that is, people of lesser status and money.

This post has to be up there with the guy who asked where to buy deoderant. OP, where would you buy sunscreen in your home country? Now look for a similar kind of shop here. Hint - supermarket, pharmacy, department store....

Are you sure? Would I ask where to buy deo in my own country? Nah. Get a grip. Asking a sensible question keyboard warrior

Not really a sensible question since it is available in all the usual places and you only need to have a look. Take a day and walk looking around, Chiang Mai is not Mars.

Didn't somebody once ask where to buy toilet paper?

I once posted asking where to buy aftershave. Some cheap Thai stuff (perhaps similar the cheap high alcohol stuff green like the one I use, Skin Bracer). It came up because I once tried to help out an old Japanese git who was asking for after shave at 7-11. Did not have it or we could not communicate. Sent him to Tesco-Lotus Express and they did not have it either. So I think some of these posts can be legitimate, if not only to get the Thai word for a simple item instead of traipsing all over town looking for something that should be commonly available almost everywhere.

The time I was looking for a mending needle and thread and did not want to make the trip to Warorot I made ridiculous sewing motions, it did not translate.facepalm.gif

Boots own label sun cream tested well independently in UK.

If it is the same stuff here, then I suggest it's good value. Wont be cheapest, wont be most expensive, but if you want something that actually protects at a fair price, it's worth checking out.

And several Boots outside the malls-one at the Thapae Road end of the Night Bazaar, and one by Thapae Gate. I'm sure there must be many more but they are the 2 that come to mind...

Off topic and argumentative posts removed. This is Chiang Mai not Phuket so suntan lotion may not be as ubiquitous and it is a reasonable question with hopes someone actually knows definitively where it can be bought without him having to throw a dart and hope that store has it.

Most of these lotions, anti radiation lotions, are very similar in active ingredients. To really save money compare ingredients of cheaper product against top name, most expensive. And buy big bottles. I use lots, have 32 hats, use gloves when biking and don't want any kind of cancer.
