Thailand’s Prime Minister urges rail links to popular resorts and tourist destinations from Bangkok and other metropolitan areas.

Prayut Chan-o-cha, Thailand’s Prime Minister, urges agencies to do a study on creating a high-speed rail to tourist destinations. The rail would start from Bangkok and be a joint investment that would be financed in part by the private sector.

The suggestion was first presented by Gen Prayut on Thursday during the Board of Investment’s first meeting.

Bangkok is not the only one to be studied. Other high-speed routes were suggested at the meeting in hopes of making transit easier. Private sector investors are urged to propose potential links that would boost the country’s economy.

The Economic and Social Development Board made a recommendation as well. The board would like to see a rail from Bangkok to Pattaya. The rail would link major economic centers together. Chon Buri and Laem Chabang port would be two of the major areas that would be linked on the rail’s route.

Thailand is consulting with the Transport Ministry to increase public-private partnerships from 300 billion baht to 1.9 trillion baht between 2015 and 2022. The goal is to provide function for transport infrastructure projects, something the country neglected in recent years.

New laws and regulations are being put in place this month to make project approvals faster and easier.

Under the new laws and regulations, the committee will no longer have to approve projects that are valued less than 1 billion baht. Instead, projects worth more than 5 billion baht will need to be approved and vetted by the committee. Projects valued at less than 1 billion baht will be approved by their respective ministries.

Projects valued at more than 1 billion baht but less than 5 billion baht will only go before the committee if they involve public services or infrastructure. Projects that are not related to these two categories will be approved by relevant ministries

Am I missing something here ?

What about the planned Chinese built high speed rail that is supposed to link Laem Chabang with Rayong

Is that one suddenly going to miss Pattaya ?

and isn't this already covered here ?

New Bangkok to Pats not so High Speed but future Railway Projects:

Walk through the Enchanted Woodland at Pattaya End and see if you can spot the many little Fairies and Elves that live hidden in the woods in their Fairy Tree Houses.

Why not try finding (Som)Crystal, who lives down by the river and adores dancing over the lily pads, or her friend Sugarplum, the party loving Fairy who loves to see children gathered together laughing.

You could also try seeing (Nit)Hazel, the fastest flying Elf who darts about at high speed in the woods, or if you look down, his friend Willow who is the tree loving Elf and can be found in the depths of the twisted tree roots....Near Walking Street

Be sure to make a wish at the Wishing Tree next to where (noi)Cristabelle, the Wishing Fairy lives and she could maybe help your dream come true. . .

All in the mind but coming soon......

Yu tee Nai.......Trong Bhai...but GO cha cha .....

Somehow these mega budget projects are seen as a benefit to Thailand, whereas mega budget expenditures going to farmers is seen as corruption, waste, etc. The projects are much better in that payoffs are easier to make, easier to hide. Oh, and of no benefit to average working class Thai.

How about a high speed rained from Bangkok to Malaysia? It would make human trafficking much more efficient.

We could use a long high speed rain all over Thailand it sure is getting dry. Thank the Lord my toilet still flushes. I can still wave bye bye mortal bodies discards

Tunnel to Samui!

We've been getting a lot of these ideas lately. Likely there is a committee somewhere and this week's assignment, for each member, is to come with an idea to bring Thailand tourism into the 21st century. Or just bring tourists. Release each one to the press a few days apart, maybe attract a big-picture investor with deep pockets.

Tourism, that's where foreigners come to your country bringing money.

Just came across this, I call it the Domino Line.
