BANGKOK: -- The police chief of Nonthaburi province was transferred to in active post at the Operation Centre of the Region 1 Provincial Police Command on alleged indiscretion.

The lightning order to transfer Pol Col Putthipat Vajirat, superintendent of Nonthaburi police, was signed by the Region 1 Provincial Police commander Pol Lt Gen Amnuay Nimmano on alleged indiscretion when he failed to monitor movement of health officials coming to give morale support to the former permanent secretary of public health Dr Narong Sahamethapat yesterday.

Without intelligence gathering of the movement of supporters, no prevention measures were then prepared in advance to cope with the rally. Besides the officer did not inspect the place showing his irresponsibility in performing duty, the order stated.

It went on saying that if the officer was allowed to remain in office, further damages to the state could be expected as Nonthaburi province is location for several significant government offices which are potential targets of protesters.

The deputy police chief of Saraburi province Pol Col Pichienyot Arunpankul was appointed to replace him until further notification.

Should have been collecting bribes, running a few women and a couple of casino's - not much chance of being transferred for such meaningless pursuits.

So he's being punished for not spying on people?

Besides the officer did not inspect the place showing his irresponsibility in performing duty

If that's compulsory for all in similar positions, they have to rethink their immigration law and work permit requirements to find enough foreign talent for replacement.

Question... is there any honest cops in this country at all? any one??? or the temptations of

greed and lust is just simply to irresistible to ignore?

Another lame excuse given when we all know there will certainly be much more behind the scenes they don't want us to know about.

Police can take bribes and extort money as much as they like with virtual impunity : I wonder what this guy really did.

The use of "indiscretion" is incorrect.

What they really mean to say is the police chief was transferred for using his discretion.

I do have a relevant question: were any laws broken?

The way I read it, he did not want to show up and follow him around kissing ass. So now he has trumped up charges of dereliction of duty, and disrespect of a visiting officer. Now his change of duty is nothing more than stamping paperwork,

Stapling, and filing until he retires,

Truth is that a lot of these 'bosses' are so busy running other business's that they have very little time left to be doing the job they are supposed to be doing. Like vast numbers of Managers in state run departments they are hardly ever at work as they consider themselves to be God's who just give orders to lackey's.

I would suspect there may be a fair bit more to it than that.

How about shunted aside while an investigation takes place into more serious indiscretions

'failed to monitor movement of health officials coming to give morale support to the former permanent secretary of public health Dr Narong Sahamethapat yesterday." and why should he? If some friends of mine I used to know when working came by to cheer me up, they should all be tailed and my home bugged? Words should have been "moral support" I assume, to raise his morale. This transfer sends a message to cops all over: if anyone anywhere has a shade of pink about them, you as big brother had better be on top of them 24/7 regardless. Gotta love this reconciliation and returning happiness cover story.

I'm trying to parse/translate the above description...

What it seems to be saying is, some health care workers yesterday held some kind of rally or protest in support of a former public health permanent secretary, presumably at or near some government facility. And, as we all know, public demonstrations and rallies are not permitted at present.

So presumably, the police colonel was spanked for either a) not preventing the rally/demonstration before it ever began, or b] not doing enough to shut it down once it did begin.
