How about this then?

There's more articles about this new rival to the Yaris and Swift in the 'other newspaper' but has anyone any experience with their poorly selling, earlier model, the MG6? I recall seeing a hoarding with the MG6 (I think) a few weeks back but to be honest, I didn't know the marque was available here.

Mrs NL is all excited about this new MG3 which in her eyes is very nah ruhk.

No resale value. Check the price around the world...

Whereas "world" prices are sometimes useful, the Thai market is beset by government regulations, duties and Taxes all of which will impinge on the resale value of the cars here. As they are now being built here, one would expect the initial retail price to be quite competitive.

Chinese made MG... no thanks.. what's next? Haggis from N. Korea?

Well, we can all hope they'd be able to make something out of that that can actually be eaten.

They seem to be making more of an impression in Laos.

I guess there has been some pricing problem, but hardly the strongest Ad campaign was it???

Interesting note on Laos since they like prestige car labels. Maybe they are unaware that the MG pedigree has been bred out of the pup.

I agree that their advertising must be woeful if they only ever sold 500 MG6's Note that nobody has chipped in with any tales of crap manufacture, dodgy dealers and useless services like they do with Ford. Just interested to see if those 500 customers are still happy. It has an exclusivity anyway and from looking at the pictures, it isn't a total dog.

Couldn't be much worse than the English made ones--had three MGAs and one MGTF back in the day in the US. Needed two parts cars to keep one MGA working and sold the TF as soon as I could. The problems were mechanical reliability and rusting body parts. Additionally, no decent service was available, and I lived in the Washington D.C., area. However, no Brit car has enjoyed the success in the States that Japanese, German, and Korean cars have.

Most of the British car-makers have gone the way of the dodo. Some have gone to the Chinese, others to the Germans, or India. I know Aston Martin is still there (not exactly a mass-market car-builder...), but not sure of too make others.

Ezzra - some very good haggis, perhaps one of the finest in the world, comes from North Korea. (Of course, I'm not sure there actually is such a thing as a good haggis.)

All the old MG's were two seat sports cars....one seat for the driver and one seat for the mechanic.....biggrin.png

So What.?. A Fiesta here has 4 Seats One for the Idiot, and 3 for Mechanics.biggrin.png

Many years ago I owned a TF. It was a joy to drive: understeer at slow speeds, oversteer at high speeds - so you just had ty find it's "sweet spot" and all be well.

Drive it from (almost) coast to coast in Canada - alost 9,000 km, flawless performance.

At home I have a MGA 1600 Mk 1 imported coupe sitting up on blocks in the garage.

Been there for 30 years.

Engine and gearbox are modified. Broke the crankshaft in the 1600 engine

Now 1800 3 bearing MGB block. has MG close ratio Le Mans gear box.

Great car to drive, started a family so put it away.

Will probably flog it off one day. Don't think it's worth a loy now.

Would have LOVED a TF. I had a TC and a couple of Bs but the TF would have been.....ah, dream on...post-42868-0-67265700-1426792469_thumb.jpost-42868-0-08184100-1426792520_thumb.j

We seem to be veering off topic a little bit here.

Feel free to open a new thread to discuss classic MG and other British sports cars.

From a past owner of a TVR

Thank You

Think the conclusion is the MG is a dicey bet if the OP is considering it.......

It's all in the eye for the wives (and us too) .... a friend of ours has a beautiful VW bug for sale and it really caught my wife's eye.....I'm thinking - old - 36hp - air cooled - no AC....but she likes the cuteness and low powered aspect....

Exactly! We can all debate the dated weego and tuna designs and the dodgy Ford service but Mrs NL said it specifically passed the "nah ruhk" test and knows absolutely bugger all about it's economy, service and practicality. It wouldn't be the first car anyway, just something cheap that can get around in manic traffic when it's too hot or dangerous for the PCX.

We will take a look.

As 99.999% of the buyers will not have a clue what TV is or it's relevance to the car buying world(big picture) this thread is actually irrelevant MG will sell the cars as do Ford Chevrolet Proton etc etc.
