Drunk monk delivered to police by trishaw rider

Udon Thani:- A drunk monk hired a trishaw rider to deliver him to his temple but the rider instead sent him to a police station. He was defrocked but not before he showed his “singing talent” to police.

Phra Boonthan Chanthasutharo, whose layman identification is Boonthan Boonsong, 49, was delivered to the Mueang Udon Thani police station at 0:15 am Sunday.

Forum held on role of the blind in the reform of Thailand

BANGKOK, 21 April 2015 (NNT) – Thailand Association of the Blind on Monday held a discussion forum on the role of the blind in the reform of Thailand.

Napa Setthakorn, director-general of the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, presided over the opening of the forum, which was held at Top Land Hotel and Convention Center in Phitsanulok. The forum is held in the third week of April every year to determine measures to improve the quality of life of the blind, and Monday's forum was the 18th of its kind.

Participants discussed how to improve the rights of the blind through the national reform process, and how to reduce the disparity faced by the blind. The recently issued law giving exemption to the reproduction of copyrighted work for the benefit of persons of disability was also widely discussed. The law was announced in the government gazette in late January.

The 3rd ASEAN Community Blind Forum also took place as a sub-event of Monday's forum, where leaders of associations of the blind in ASEAN convened on the empowerment of the blind in ASEAN and their roles at the global stage.

BANGKOK, 21 April 2015 (NNT) – Minister to the Prime Minister's Office M.L. Panadda Diskul on Monday held a meeting of a subcommittee for the dissemination of information on newly-emerging infectious diseases at the Office of the Permanent Secretary, Prime Minister's Office.

The meeting was participated by the secretary-general of the National Research Council of Thailand, the directors-general of the Department of Disease Control and Department of Information, and representatives of television channels.

The subcommittee, which works to present and follow up on guidelines for public relations concerning new infectious diseases, considered the draft of a manual for publicizing the risk of new infectious diseases, and the appointing of a working committee to help carry out the subcommittee's work.

Those at the meeting also agreed to synchronize public relations by the central and provincial sectors, and to emphasize the gathering of new information in tandem with the dissemination of existing guidelines on the prevention and control of new infectious diseases.

Boat passengers to be required to wear life jackets

Bangkok:- To step up measures to protect passengers, the Harbor Department plans to amend three laws to require tourists and passengers to wear life jackets on both river and sea boat trips.

Nat Jabjai, deputy director general of the Harbor Department, said the department is about to amend the laws so that it can issue a new directive to make life jacket wearing compulsory throughout trips.

Prime Minister Prayut joining Asian African Commemoration Conference in Indonesia today

BANGKOK, 21 April 2015 (NNT)-Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha is participating in the Asian African Commemoration Conference 2015 being held in Indonesia to strengthen bilateral ties between the two regions.

The Prime Minister traveled to Jakarta with an entourage of high ranking officials to attend the conference from April 21st – 23rd.
